At the last WGA picnic it was brought up that we need to sell WGA merchandise which helps pay the bills. Does the canidates think the store should be a full time committee member or the store open full time? Also ways to get more merchandise can be sold to help with the funding of the WGA?

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

    Thank you for the question

Having a full time, year round WGA store would require not only have a full stock of inventory it would require having someone (non smoking, no pets) that could store the stuff and mail as orders come in.

We have done quite well selling items at the WGA events and the West Bend Cache Bash. Funny how just that slight change I made from having just a campout shirt to a full stock of items, has become such a big hit.

I personally do not have the space to store items nor the time commitment this would take. The best I could do is handle help maintaining the inventory by placing the orders which is what I already do.

I think that AuntieNae has done a great job as treasurer and handling the merchandise at most events and think that she has a very good understanding of the situation.

I do like the idea of opening up the store for shipping maybe shortly before Christmas as it is a time of year that a lot of people might like to buy gifts and support the WGA. But I think that the burden of carrying this out shouldn’t fall solely on the treasurer or other BOD, it would be nice if a group of volunteers could put this together. My suggestion would be to have the store open the first 2 weeks of December. Then a group of volunteers could get together one afternoon to put together orders to mail out in time for Christmas.

I also think that a full time store would be out of the question, just from the manpower standpoint. Without having someone dedicated to storing and being able to ship products, for now it just won’t work. Opening the store for Christmas presents soulnds good though but just in case there are any special orders that need to be done, I would think the last 2 weeks of Nov for ordering, then the first week in dec for shipments.

My answer would be no and yes!

    No- see avove comments

Yes- only on limited items. I feel that offering geocoins and pathtags could be something that can be done fulltime. Clothing- definately NOT something we should do fulltime.

I agree with what most of you have said. It would be very demanding to have the store open full time. Having it open the last two weeks of Nov. and the first two of Dec. though seems like a good idea for those buying Christmas presents.

Having a full time store open would take such a dedicated group of volunteeers, that I don’t think that is feasible now. In the future..who knows?

We’ve done a pretty good job of bringing merchandise to events in the past so I’d like to see us continue to refreshen the ‘brand” and keep marketing our stuff.

Come the Holiday season, maybe we could set up the virtual store or focus on having WGA members host events where the BOD can bring out the trailer so we can buy in person and avoid the mailing and service fees.

Being a part of the geocoin committee for 2012 and 2013, I’ve seen just a little of what it takes to makes such a venture work. Full time just doesn’t work right now.
