I read one of the WGA articles recently written by goldiediggers, sharing how he came up with the “race” games enjoyed by some of our friends in the southeast corner of the state. That got me thinking…
Way back when we started playing (2006), a now defunct geocoin minting company used to host a different geocaching game each year. The year I played Adventure QuestIV, it was called “modern Day Outlaws,” one of whom was lostby7. The passage of time renders some details sketchy, but I remember solving different cryptograms, hoping to pick the correct vehicle for each “chase,” a timed element to try and beat, and a requirement to actually find a cache matching some set criteria. It was a lot of fun and though I fell apart toward the end, I still had a pretty decent finish for a newbie to this kind of thing.
Anyone else remember those? The nice thing about it was that where you live didn’t restrict you from play. Are there games of that sort hosted now?
Is that how LB7 became Johnny Waypoint? That was before my time but after yours… maybe a year-plus window…
Yes! That was the name of his character, one of several that players had to try and capture. Too bad the geocoin company shut down….I don’t think it would be possible to search for how the gameplay worked, but I enjoyed it….well, sometimes that timer element had me up late at night or up early at a time when I still was teaching.
Okay, I found a link to the main page announcing that game. Maybe the coin company is still in business and I’m just confused.

Those games were a blast. I circulated my train coin from one of the years and it went missing on I believe one of its first 3 or four caches.
That’s just rotten, LB7. Every coin and TB we’ve ever set free has vanished from the face of the earth. I wish they’d set up more games like those. I learned a lot as a newbie about many aspects of geocaching. Plus….it was fun!
