Yeah, I’ve noticed that same phenomenon, Pete. What IS that all about? LOL

Let’s all go at once, LOL.

Sorta like the big caching group outings only this time it’s a mass shopping trip!! I like it.

(not that I necessarily like shopping being a guy and all, but that’s a store I don’t mind visiting on occasion)

Thanks for the update email Jess (Merc Inc.)

I think I’ll stop in today and do some restocking. 1001 uses for camo rope, you know.

Should have done this yesterday when I was in the neighborhood…

Interesting way of circumventing the commercial cache prohibition…no, you don’t HAVE to go inside…but ya know you will…

It’s not new and I’ve seen several incarnations of this. Heck I even own one.

For instance, you have the dairy queen cache at last year’s cache bash with the coupons in the cache. The reward for the family on that cache was a bit more than a used golf-ball. We used the coupon alright plus more.

As long as it’s not blatant and you have a choice, it’s really no big deal. If the guidelines do not stop caches in parking lots you will probably always have this whether it’s on the cache page or not.

It would nice to see it as a little reward INSIDE the cache though and not on the cache page. That way the cache is not targeted specifically for getting the “reward” (i.e. a “commercial) and is more a perk of actually caching. Just my 2 cents.

Apparently I had a different interpretation of what this means, but maybe I’m just not a “Gander” regular so I didn’t catch the full meaning.

01/20/2010 Due to the continued interest and the suggestions of several “Cachers”, Gander Mountain-Appleton will give a $10. “Gander Bucks” Card to all previous loggers and all subsequent finders. Just come in, go to the Service Desk, get your “Name” checked off and receive your card.

What this means as I found after visiting for my $10 card is that you get a coupon card for $10 off a $50 or more purchase. The “$50 or more” is a critical missing piece of information.

Look, I don’t mind this at all, I’m just sayin’ that I had to change a cache page once because I mentioned that you could park by the ice cream shop ‘cuz it was “solicitation.” Just sayin is all.

That is a norm when I go to Gander, spending over $50 that is.

That’s confusing. 😕 Does not sound like what we’d expect the term “Gander Bucks” to mean.

      From the Cache Description:
“01/20/2010 Due to the continued interest and the suggestions of several “Cachers”, Gander Mountain-Appleton will give a $10. “Gander Bucks” Card to all previous loggers and all subsequent finders. Just come in, go to the Service Desk, get your “Name” checked off and receive your card. “

and continuing in the Description “FTF will receive a $10. “Gander Bucks” card by bringing the cache into the store and showing the log to the MOD While you sign it.”

However, There are other similar stores within visual distance of this one where the same $$$ will get you way more (based on my experience with the sports that I participate in).

And for the record – I think it is very misleading, leaning way towards being commercial. If the wording was changed then maybe I’d change my opinion, but as is it’s very misleading.

Oh – and all you need to do is ask at the desk. No check off sheet or validation required.

Sounds like it ended up being the old “if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is”. The $10 off of $50 is probably one of the most easy to come by. We get them in the mail all the time for lots of stores. Think about it; that’s only 20% off. Not such a bargain in this economy. However, I wouldn’t keep this from keeping me from stopping for this cache next time we pass by and Gander Mountain is great even if your just browsing. We stopped to browse at the one in Waukesha last week and I got a pair of $40 camo slippers for $12. Even better was that Sunshine bought them for me. I still haven’t figured out what I’ll be owing her in the future for that.

Grabbed my Gander Card today. Yup, $10 off of $50 or more. My say-so was good enough at the Service Desk.
If it needs to be removed from the cache page, a note in the container works, too. There’s always a Plan B! 😉

        #1920733

I got mine today as well. Found out it was $10 off a $50 purchase when I brought $30 worth of stuff up to the checkout. Oh, well, I bet I can go back and spend $50 without much of a problem!
