I have an e-trex legend and was checking out the Garmin site for info on mapping software, and they say that the city select and the metro guide are similar. Which is better? I would mostly be using this in the Chicago/Milwaukee area, as well as throughout WI.

Well I have the Garmin V GPS and it came with City Select. Now the city select is pretty much the same as metro guide, EXCEPT that city select has the auto-routing feature for the GPS’s that do precise point to point directions.

I also have the metroguide for when I had a Garmin GPSMap 76. Now this unit didnt have the auto-routing feature and metroguide pretty much is for mapping only. The map will move with you while the unit is on the mapping mode on the GPS. This adds detailed mapping that doesnt come preinstalled on the unit. You just hook it up to the computer with the provided cord and upload the maps that you desire up to the max. megabites that your unit has. But doesnt give directions to the point. I hope this helps out.

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m fairly certain City Select isn’t supported by the eTrex Legend unless you have the Legendc (color version)
