As some of you know, the USB connector in my GPSMAP60 broke and I mailed it back to Garmin. They sent me back a whole new unit. That is what they do for warranty and repairs as I understand things. Nice, yes? Not really. You see, the GPSMAP60 does not come with detailed maps. However, the City Select that came with my GPS V Deluxe has an unlock license for ONE other Garmin unit that one might own. So, I was able to unlock all of City Select for my nice new GPSMAP60c. My warranty unit in now devoid of all my waypoints and maps. I have all my unique waypoints stored on the computer so no problem. But when I try to upload my maps, THBBT! (thats the sound of the tongue vibrating between the lips) I go to the Garmin website unlock page and it says I’ve used up my license.
Hopefully a little oversight by Garmin. I sent them an email about it and expect the situation will be remedied to my satisfaction. You will all hear how it goes when I do. Just something to be aware of.

03/21/2004 at 8:33 am #1748207My problem with this unit is…I don’t have it yet!
It is taking forever for it to be shipped. First Amazon said March 15-25. I just checked “track your order” and now it states April 5-20.
If this keeps up I may not have the thing in time for the WGA Campout!03/22/2004 at 1:05 am #1748208Maybe check with Offroute.com. They might be a few bucks more than some but they do give a kickback to the Irishman. As to my connector issue, in reading posts on GC.com, other people have the problem too. It starts out as in intermitant problem but finally the connector comes loose and then it’s back to the serial port, which is a great feature in itself. Having a fall-back that is.
03/22/2004 at 3:21 am #1748209I just ordered my 60cs from tigergps.com and it shipped the same day. I ordered it Wednesday and should get it Monday. I have already told the boss I am leaving at exactly 2:00 and no overtime on Monday. Tigergps usually has the lowest price but they will gladly match anyone. I have used them twice and would recommend them to my best friend.
03/26/2004 at 12:03 pm #1748210HUZZAH! My new 60C finally arrived. Now I just have to see if my mapsource maps will load to it and I’ll be off on the trails again!
03/30/2004 at 1:53 pm #1748211For all you 60C users… I got an email yesterday saying that ExpertGPS now has a beta version out that supports high-speed USB transfer to the 60C and other models.

Is it possible to get some of the unlock codes?
01/01/2005 at 8:52 pm #1748213Garmin was also very willing to send me unlock codes when I bought my GPS V from a person on eBay who didn’t know enough to send me those yellow papers. I talked to the seller on the phone and he provided the unlock code without the help of Garmin.

Sorry, this offer was made to a known caching friend, not the general public.
