What the heck is Express Logger? So how does it log a log? Is it a generic log? I’m just trying to learn about it is all.

The 300 file has been fixed and loads fully according to the GC forums. I downgraded back to 2.95 on my 400t because there was talk of the maps freezing during autorouting.

Actually, the maps freeze or disappear in 2.95 too, but the biggest issue right now is searching a POI alphabetically, shuts down the GPS. I too decided I might wait this one out.

I have never used this, but I know several people do. The upside is faster logging when you do a bunch. The downside is that it can faciltiate generic cut and paste logs.
My original point was that the Oregon/Colorado does the same type of function, only easier.

Basically you select found or not found on the unit and it stores that information in a file on the unit. You have the option to add notes to each cache when you mark it as found (or not found) though the number of characters is pretty small. I find that just adding a few words will spark the ol memory to get a decent log later on GC.
Next, you plug the unit into your computer and select the access field notes link on GC, follow the directions, and then the unit will upload information to GC. A webpage will appear which provides a hyperlink to each cache you marked as found (or not found). You just follow the link(s) and you will be brought right to the box on the cache page where you would write your comments. The box will be selected for you as found (or not found) and any comments you wrote on the unit will show up in the comments box on GC. You can now just hit submit or edit the comments to make them more coherent. I hope that makes sence.
Oregon 2.97Beta is out, which fixed the two major bugs that were released in 2.96B. Here is a collective list of what got updated from 2.95 to 2.97:

* Added Sight ‘N Go application for the Oregon 300/400i/400c/400t.
* Added option to display four configurable data fields on the map.
* Added customizable text to unit power-on screen (see Garminstartup.txt)

* Added the ability to view geocaches logs separate from the description
* Increased the number of waypoints viewable from the Waypoint Manager and Where To?>Waypoints
2.96 bugs fixed:
• Fixed lockup when a search returns no results
• Fixed map stopped drawing while autoroutingI think I will wait until tomorrow to see what the other forums are saying and then give this one a try over the weekend. One thing I do appreciate about the Oregon is the ability to go backwards with the releases if there are issues you dont like.

Garmin has had allot of issues with the Colorado’s hardware, so updating the unit software wouldn’t fix all the issues. I have a feeling this model will be on the back burner and only receive a few updates until it is finally discontinued.
A great example of how many problems they were having is the fact they released the Oregon models within a few months of the Colorado release. This has never happened with a garmin handheld model before, they usually only release new models a year or two after the a new models initial release.

The emails to this question from Garmin is that all the releases for the Oregon are beta releases. They are testing out the updates on the Oregon first and when the software is stable they will port them to the Colorado. Personally, I think this means one of two things – either Garmin hired a bunch of layed off ex-Microsoft programmers (let end users find the bugs) or its faster to develop for the Oregon platform. Either way it doesnt sound like the Colorado users are going to be left out in the cold.
And no, I’m not a Mac person, but after using some of these releases, they have broken more things than they actually advanced. However, I spent the whole day putting the 2.97 through its paces and it very cool. Not one hiccup on either one of our GPSs. Now if they update the chip firmware this is going to be one cache machine that wont be beat.

2. For those experienced with the Oregon, which model would you purchase and why? Assume cost is not a factor. Well of course it is, but assume it is not!
