Here’s the garmin press release with more info…..
http://www8.garmin.com/pressroom/corporate/052907.html
I notice all geocache pages have a “send to GPS” link now, where you can send caches directly to garmin GPSr.
you need a plugin from garmin for this to work…..
05/29/2007 at 10:32 pm #1875265This is very cool however I can’t seem to get it to work. I get an error about the plug in not being started when I goto garmins test page. has anyone else got this to work?
05/30/2007 at 1:20 am #1875266seems strange but from what info I have found this plug in needs to be activated somehow, yet there is no mention of this anywhere. since this is new I’m sure more info will be coming…..
I was able to get the unit working on a garmin test site…. pretty cool, I was able to view my tracks and waypoints in google maps, and send waypoints to my gps.

05/30/2007 at 4:05 am #1875268I did get it working following a similar procedure as the first post on this topic. it’s new so I guess its still a bit buggy.
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=164466I have a non-premium geocaching account so I’m not sure if I would have got more waypoint info with the direct download on a premium account.
With my non-premium membership the cache loaded with the default blue flag icon and is named by its GCXXX number. The note field contained the cache name.05/31/2007 at 7:06 pm #1875269I installed the plugin and got it working as well. I have a premium membership and also got the generic icon and GC number for the name. I will stick with loading to GSAK and sending them to my GPS using custom icons and names. It only takes a couple seconds more and it’s much more usable.
06/02/2007 at 4:39 pm #1875270I usually try to remain reserved on this forum, but that Motion Based software is AWESOME!
I have just a simple little yellow eTrex. It pulled data from the last few months of geocaching, and presented it to me in easy to understand formats: charts, graphs, lists.
No disclaimers, I don’t work for Garmin, but check it out.
I downloaded the software, uploaded my data, and was flipping through charts quickly and easily.

A bit of friendly advice to all. Part or all of this Garmin API program to download WP’s directly from geocaching.com is a BETA VERSION. See the Garmin site and read about the “add in”. The disclaimer is there.
Even Garmin tech support people recommend that only the brave use any Garmin BETA version.
My advice, sign up for the free E mail from Garmin and install the new program when it becomes final and not BETA.
Even then, I would check for updates frequently.
