Looks like I’m buying a Garmin V Deluxe. I don’t know if I will sell the eMap but will likely sell the bigger memory stick and case in point, the Mapsource. Can anyone with a Garmin V tell me if there is any reason I should keep the Mapsource Metroguide program? Meaning, does Metroguide have any backroad detail that the CityGuide doesn’t?

Steve, I’d save it. I don’t own Metroguide, but I used Roads and Rec with my GPS 12MAP before I got the GPS V – and yes R&R has roads that City Select does not. I noticed this while geocaching in Waterloo, Iowa

To expound on what Cachew said, if you’re looking for backroad detail on your GPSR, trying loading MapSource Roads & Recreation on your eMap before upgrading your hardware. If you don’t have R&R… well I know someone who does.

Although I have not used it much, Garmin’s TOPO software can help out in steep, wooded terrain – walk the contour instead of up and down the ‘kettle’. The Garmin V software make it easy to switch between these 3 mapping databases. I was amazed to see this software having the individual NAMES of dry washes in the So Cal desert badlands of Anza Borrego. Impressive product.
