This unit seems to acquire only when it feels like it. Most of the time it just sits after powerup and shows no satellite signals at all (this goes on for long periods of time). But, once in awhile, it will acquire normally. Time to give the Garmin folks a call?
Our bad-it’s actually a Vista CX.
Problem solved. It was just a matter of updating the software on the unit. Once the latest version was installed, it works fine.
ooh, thanks, I borrowed one from the scouts that had that same problem, i’ll send that over as a suggestion.

Go to Garmin’s website and download/install their webupdater program. Then, run it with the unit attached by USB. It’ll check for and install any needed software update.
