I wish I would have learned about this before I posted my personal info topic but as this game morphs…..
In any case as I had stated, I play all types of games which are GPS involved and the new Wherigo application looks absolutely amazing! If I am elected to the board I would like to see us incorporate this new game type into our outings (camping / picnic) as well as possibly buying a couple of units as loaners for these events (perhaps Garmin could offer us a discount as the mark up on these units is considerable).
Just as a demonstration of what this new gametype can do:
Just like in a video game, characters can guide, instruct, talk to, or otherwise interact with Wherigo users. Characters may be purely virtual or represented by objects in the real world. The game player determines the outcome by their actions. For instance, when a player tries to open a door, an author might create a condition where the door can only open if the player has a key. You could for example have someone walk through the real woods and “Find” keys and treasures…talk to people to learn secrets or battle dragons….
You can look forward to Alien Invasions, pirates and dragons to be found in my part of the country.
I for one plan to embrace this new technology and hope that we as the WGA would embrace the new concept as well.
Well having spent several hours playing with the Wherigo build software currently offered, it is clear that this is in no way ready for use by more than the most adept computer savvy folks. While I think Wherigo has great potential, it is still too early in the development stages to get rolling with at least the building side of this new concept.
While I do hope that GC will simplify things for the masses, that time is not now.
