We wanted to share this with those that might be able to take advantage of it…
Phillips 66 Hwy 45 between Antigo and Whittenberg.. We filled our tank at $2.56/gallon Sunday afternoon. Saving $.21/gallon over the nearby competitors
09/19/2005 at 6:30 pm #1759641It is great that you want to share…. I’ll be over to your house with my siphon later.
09/19/2005 at 6:46 pm #1759642Long way to drive to fill my tank. Get home and have to go back for more!! LOL It’s getting there though. Have $2.76 here in TR right now.

04/20/2008 at 12:20 pm #1759644how funny to bump this one back up…

04/20/2008 at 1:02 pm #1759645Here is an update…
3.69 at the local Mobil station.
It seems the oil companies have taken their hands off of my wallet and moved them to my throat.
04/20/2008 at 3:01 pm #1759646My family and I are avid campers, but the cost of gas has me very concerned about pulling the pop up all around the Badger State, so as an alternative I’m taking up this crazy addicitive hobby. Not having to pull the camper while still having fun will be a pretty nice alternative.
04/20/2008 at 8:05 pm #1759647I’m heading to Gettysburg, PA in a couple days. I believe nearly 50% of the vacation budget is going towards gas.

LOL! You must new to the sport. You just might want to reconsider pulling the pop up. You might save gas.
04/21/2008 at 1:46 am #1759649LOL, gotta agree with Cheezehead there. We’ve pretty much cleaned out everything within 55 miles of home, so any caching trip involves gas. It’s sad, isn’t it?
04/21/2008 at 2:02 am #1759650I’m ridin’ the ol bicycle to work at least two days this week. The company I work for pays people to ride-share or to bike in. For me it is a 7 mile bike ride and they pay me $3 a day. On Tuesday (Earth-day) they will give me $12 to bike in & breakfast (which at the facility I work at means they will cheap out and give me a granola bar) and enter me in a contest for some prizes.

Yes you’re right, I am new to the sport. But no one is going to convince me that geocaching is as expensive as pulling a camper, along with a family of four, all of our camping gear, clothing, food, water, propane, bicycles, toys, etc. Our camper weighs 2200 pounds empty. When fully loaded to go, it can easily tip the scales at 3000 pounds. At more than $3.60/gallon for regular unleaded, our cost for gas alone will be over $130 round trip with a full tank each way.
Figure at least $50 for food, $15 dollars for ice to stock our coolers, and anywhere from $15 to $40 for a campsite (state park vs. private campground), etc., and our bill for one weekend of camping can easily run over $200.
Granted, geocaching can be an expensive sport to get into initially, but after your start up expenditures, it’s nowhere near as expensive as camping…or at least it doesn’t have to be.
04/21/2008 at 12:00 pm #1759652I have too agree, the cost of fuel has greatly diminished any geocaching for me. $130 is a lot of money. However, to be fair, one has too compute the difference between last year’s cost with that of this year’s cost.

04/21/2008 at 4:16 pm #1759653We decided a few years ago it was much less than we spent going to Packer games, so gave our tickets to other family members. Also one of our sons is an avid golfer he said he spent $6000 on golf fees last summer alone. Guess it is a matter of perspective… it does cost but so do any “hobbies” casinos, collecting things, horses… whatever you like. We have decided it is our main hobby and look at the gas as the “cost” of playing the game.
TE04/21/2008 at 4:59 pm #1759654I have to wonder if the increased popularity of geocaching is causing increased oil demand? Perhaps all the people chasing tupperware are driving up the demand of gasoline?
Maybe we can get OPEC to sponsor our events?
🙂 🙂 🙂
