nah, now that it is up over $4.00, people will finally get off their asses about alternative fuel sources and put the money into getting the infastructure in place for hydrogen or other alternatives (corn is NOT the answer)….we have the technology. we have the resources, we just need the big companies to get on board to bring down costs. Which they won’t do if people are happy buying their fossil fuels.
Look at how many car commercials are pimping their “hybrids” and electrics now that gas is up…. same tech they’ve had for a few years, but not a money cow enough to push it. Now that “regular joes” give a crap, those Prius sales are gonna explode!
05/23/2008 at 9:42 pm #1759686Anybody see any smart cars yet? We live near a dealership and they are already sold out of them until next year. A bit odd looking. If I’m not mistaken, they get about 40m/gal, and are only two seaters and cost about $13,500. My wife’s Carolla got 40m/gal on the highway when we first got it 6 years ago, and that is a four seater. I don’t think I could justify the cost of one of those things for just a little running around. We are a family of four after all.
05/23/2008 at 10:09 pm #1759687There’s a smart car zooming around the Appleton area. Saw it parked the other day.

Gas must be too expensive to even drive one of those around. 🙄

We saw one cruising right along with highway traffic on Hwy. 190 in New York a couple of months ago. We got a little closer look at it in town a little later. That was way back when gas was only $3.49 a gallon.
05/24/2008 at 2:24 pm #1759690The price of gas will no doubt make a huge difference in how many miles I can drive to cache, which is kind of petty, but is also going to have huge impacts in more important arenas. Everything that is trucked (which is most of what you eat) will go up in price. The economy will slow even deeper as the price of energy shoots up. The Bush Recession has a real chance of becoming the Bush Depression.
Most point to the greed of Big Oil as a factor. And I suppose that is a factor, but the biggest factor, at least in my mind is the incompetence of the Bush/Cheney/Rove team. The occupation of Iraq is the major reason that the price of oil is high. Last week, oil prices reached a record high of over $135 a barrel. On March 19, 2003 — the day the Iraq war commenced — oil was trading at $36 a barrel.
It Is All About The Numbers, after all.

05/24/2008 at 7:15 pm #1759691As of a few days ago, gas was going for $.45 in Saudi Arabia. I bet there is almost no fluctuation in prices over there.

You know, last week I ordered a pizza, and it took OVER AN HOUR to arrive. That darned President Bush!!!!
05/25/2008 at 4:50 pm #1759693WI gas is cheap compared to California here at GW6, I paid 4.20 at the cheapest station and saw 4.50 in a few places.
05/30/2008 at 1:55 am #1759694Gas is 4.25 today near Chicago. I snapped a picture so that I can remember how “cheap” gas was when I look back 2 years from now.
05/30/2008 at 12:59 pm #1759695My wife was talking to her brother in Tennessee last night and it is still $3.65 down there.
Must be that clean country living.
06/21/2008 at 6:52 pm #1759696While we were in Europe, I rented a turbo diesel family sized sedan. 5 passengers with their luggage. I was running 80-90 mph on the Autoroutes and averaged 55mpg when you do the math.
That’s the good news. Diesel cost me $8.92/gallon when you also do the math.
What was particularly irritating is that Chevrolet sells the Malibu we get over here, in Europe with a turbo diesel and a 5 speed. It is rated at 45 mpg on the highway.
06/22/2008 at 1:41 am #1759697Just got back from the Cities. My wife found a heck of a deal 05′ VW Bug. More less bought it for her cuz she heads down to the cities about every other week for work. Maybe she’ll let me take geocaching instead of my Tahoe once in awhile.
11/01/2008 at 1:34 am #1759698What goes around comes around . . . got gas for $2.29 in Mauston today.
11/01/2008 at 1:49 am #1759699$2.29 or $3.29?
