I am coordinating the normal temp cache hides and the children’s caches for this years picnic. (Grousetales is setting up the map – which areas that we can hide in).

I wish to have a mini cache hiding gathering on Sunday, August 10th at 1pm.. that way I’ll be there to pass out the containers as well as to chart their locations upon a main map.

If anyone can’t make it to this gathering (social too) then Hot_dogs_off_trail will have the remaining containers for those that wish to head to Devil’s Lake at another time.

So please let me know if you are interested or can attend by posting here or in email.

Have it marked and we’ll be there.

    I’ll be there.

    I’m in, too! … Cachew

    Just an update..

I was at Devil’s Lake with Grousetales, Jeremy, Yawningdog and Hotdogs_off_trail. We enjoyed scoping out many great areas for the cache hides as well as have hidden a few already.

Most will be easy terrains with a few hard hike climbs available for those that are daring.

We have 6 cachers coming on the 10th to add their talents into the hide mix. So if you are yet interested in volunteering to hide a cache or two.. please let me know.

This is what I’d love to see! While most of the caches should probably be 2/2s or less to give people a chance to find them without too much difficulty, I’d love to have one or two caches that would actually be a real challenge to find. Perhaps add a couple of extra door prize tickets as incentives.

I’m planning on being there the 10th (since I didn’t get all my caches placed yet).

I also plan to bring the FRS repeater to test it’s range. Anyone coming on 8/10 should bring their FRS radios if they have them!

GrouseTails – I’ll bring a pair of FRS.

Sounds good Cachew…Whoever else owns one, be sure to bring it along!

If the consensus for the temp hides is to have a picnic at the lake also, I’ll bring fresh sweet corn. Need a head count of how many are expected, Lil Otter?

I don’t know if a ‘picnic’ is in order.. but that sounds fun and yummy (corn).. but most are traveling a good distance and bringing foods might be troublesome for them to do..
    What do the others think?

I believe that meeting up at the normal lon/lat of the Shelter we will be using for the WGA Picnic will be easy for everyone to find.. there is a huge parking lot there that we could use even if that shelter is tied up. From there we could find a few picnic tables to gather at and chat..

Hmmm, I posted here 2 days ago and it disappeared.

I think we should set a definate meeting place. We can on meeting at the designated shelter, but if it’s occupied we should meet somewhere else.

If the shelter is occupied by a different group, lets plan on meeting by the snack bar on the south beach. We can meet outside by the soda machine.

I also like the idea of getting there early for lunch. My wife and I are planning on arriving at the park around 11AM. If anyone else wanted to eat before hand, we could fire up a grill for lunch at 12:00? Or perhaps grill after the meeting?

Oops.. I did email out to the volunteers that we’d meet up at the Picnic lon/lat (GCG8WA) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=cee095f3-e1ba-4868-a154-31b12fed6f0b

There seemed to be plenty of parking there and if the shelter was in use .. we’d just grab up a few tables nearby. Sorry to have not posted this information here sooner..

Sounds like a fun idea to gather before or after the hides for a meal.. just wanted to hear more feedback from the others about it. I’ll bring some desert/bakery-type stuff to share..

    I’ll bring some watermellon.

Not a whole lot of activity on this thread, but if you read this before coming to the park today, we’ll be using FRS radio channel 12.

I’m bringing some charcoal, so if you want to eat, bringing your own meat. I’ll have a few extra burgers.
