Email from a GreenBay cacher looking for assistance/equipment to use for a geocaching 101 July 18-22, 2011
Hello,
My name is Steve Huntley and am a geocacher from Green Bay. I am going to be teaching a geocaching/outdoor adventure class to 5th-8th graders as part of our Celebration Church’s Fine Arts Festival, this July 18th-22nd. I am hoping you can help in a couple of ways, in exchange for advertising/promotion at our festival and of course for general goodwill as I teach youth about this exciting activity. My class will consist of 36 kids, divided into 3 class periods.
I am wondering if you or any of your members have access to a handful of basic GPS units that could be carefully borrowed for the class and also if you have any tips or tricks on teaching and getting kids excited about geocaching. I have a single magellan GPS but have not been able to find anyone who can loan me any additional units other than smartphones and Car GPSs, which isn’t quite the same thing,of course. Even if I can just use 1 or 2 units, I could have them divide into groups and share. It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Steve Huntley
If anyone can assist or has units that could be utilized, please post here or PM me and I will get you in contact with the requestor.
thanks

Celebration Church Fine Arts Festival http://bayside.celebrationchurch.tv/2011/03/23/fine-arts-2011-word-up/
July 18-22nd
Classes are Monday through Thursday
9:30-10:15 1st hour – 12 kids
10:18-11:01 2nd hour – 12 kids
11:04-11:47 3rd hour – 12 kidsIt would be held on the church grounds. It is a pretty good sized campus and has a little bit of a wooded area as well. I would teach them the basics of using a GPS, place geocaches for them to find around the campus as well as aid them in placing and marking their own cache for other classes to find. We would also cover wilderness safety, and of course incorporate our theme for the week.
If someone wanted to assist with the class, that would be fine. The criteria for teachers and assistants for this event would be to be a mature, practicing Christian adult. They would also need to complete a background check as soon as possible.
If someone would rather not assist, but be able to loan out any equipment, That would be fine as well. I would gladly pay some sort of deposit to ensure the safe return of all gear.
Thank you for the help!
Steve
