In the early 70’s I served in the US Navy. This is where the basis of my Sailor Jerry caches was founded. All the people listed in these caches actually existed, including Jerry. Today I get an email from a mdoug**** through the GC.com website. All it says is “Jerry V is that you?”. mdoug**** just happens to be someone I served with, and then shared an apartment with, after my military time. I lost track of mgoug**** somewhere around 1976-77. Not knowing my username was peach107 and somehow finding one of my Sailor Jerry caches (that’s the crazy part), he assumed that the real Sailor Jerry (Jerry V) was responsible for these caches. Funny how geocaching is responsible for getting the old crew back together. Think I’ll give Sailor Jerry a call. Hmmmmmm! Possible Naval Amphibious Base Coronado reunion?
very cool Peach! I have found old friends through the face place (many of us have) but I hadn’t heard of anyone finding old friends through GC.com before.

What a cool story. Now you need to find someone to foster these caches for you, because who knows what other old Navy buddies you might find?
I love stories like this! While not as profound, I had a reunion of sorts due to geocaching.com. Back when I betgan caching, I went to a meet & greet, and who is there but a staff member from my high school. Mrs. Sloughfoot greeted me warmly and welcomed me to caching. You never know who might be a cacher! 😀
I was going to tell this story too Amita17. Imagine my surprise when I walked into that meet and greet and saw that redhead I hadn’t seen in years.
While at the pre-bash, ran into some friends we knew from our Astronomy club days but hadn’t seen or talked too in many years. That was awesome!
Small world indeed.
