I’m thinking that the souvenirs may be a good thing. I was awarded a Delaware icon, despite never having been there. I am now going to have to plan a geo-vacation so that I don’t loose sleep over an unearned souvenir! 😀
12/10/2010 at 6:49 pm #1939951this has me wondering now, I have the Massachusetts souvenir but I don’t know if it was because of the state series or because I actually found one (yes, only one) on my trip to Boston.

12/10/2010 at 7:03 pm #1939952We got the 10-10-10 souvenir when we logged our first cache on that date. Then, out of the blue, we got a Delaware souvenir, but when I clicked on it, it disappeared. Soon after, a Pennsylvania souvenir appeared. That’s all we have.
So I’m figuring that the souvenirs are being developed from east to west or in the order that the states became states, hence the prevalence of Delaware appearances. Like Labrat, we have one, and only one, cache find in Pennsylvania, but we have that souvenir. I would imagine as the souvenirs get developed, we will get more, such as Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois… states where we have found caches.
12/10/2010 at 7:42 pm #1939953They gave one for a find on 10-10-10 – I wonder if they are going to give one out for a find on 1-1-11
❗

12/10/2010 at 8:51 pm #1939955I guess I’m behind in my reading…

Over the past several weeks, Geocaching.com has been releasing souvenirs for the U.S. and German states, special souvenirs and Mega-Event souvenirs to the geocaching community. More than 30 souvenirs are already available to geocachers. We’re scheduled to release six souvenirs each week into early 2011.

They are doing the US states in order of statehood. Anyone hoping for a HI one is going to be waiting a bit.
12/10/2010 at 11:19 pm #1939957Darn, that’s the one “cool” state I’ve got, too. Like everything else in life, I’m always the last one in line, LOL.
12/17/2010 at 6:18 pm #1939958Looks like Ohio has been granted now. Whoop de doo. You know, if you click on the little icon thing on your souvenir tab, you get the full image. Those are really nice, but I still ask…what the heck is the point?

Same point as an electronic smilely. 😀
On the Left Side of the Road...12/17/2010 at 7:05 pm #1939960Not really, since basically we already got the “souvenir” when we got the electronic smiley for going there, LOL. Bonus smiley, maybe? 🙄
This hobby is one odd duck, isn’t it? Believe me when I say I’ve been involved in a variety of hobbies and know they have their own subcultures.
12/17/2010 at 7:29 pm #1939961Meaning, all you really “get” from geocaching is the experience that you remember of having gone.
Everything else is just ethereal, whether it be your find count or a fancy new souvenier graphic. Just a bunch of 1s and 0s.
On the Left Side of the Road...12/17/2010 at 8:31 pm #1939962Yeah, really, what a pathetic excuse of a goal, eh? I mean, really, so what’s the big deal about traversing the swamp on snowshoes to reach the source of the Eagle River, crawling into a narrow cave entrance to discover three huge “rooms” or crossing the Montreal River several times to discover the falls themselves? 😉
12/17/2010 at 9:15 pm #1939963Are you making my point or arguing with me 😛

I think she agrees with you. Gwyn is not very good at arguing.
