Why are you archiving it. Whats wrong with it.

Seems “rules” are fluid. They come and go.

What we couldn’t do before we can now. What you could do then you can’t now.

Based on his earlier note it looks like you can’t link to a site that utilizes flash technology. I’m guessing the Ipad/Iphone/Ipod inability to run flash sites might have a bit to do with this new rule.

So they (GS) allow chirp caches and whereigo where you have to use a particular GPS or handheld device but they don’t allow puzzle caches that require visiting a site that uses flash that 99% of all actual computers can display?

These are my observations and not the opinion of the WGA or any Groundspeak volunteer.

I think (???) the Flash rule has been around for some time? Or am I thinking of the executable rule.

We always allowed links to Flash pages in the past, but apparently there was a specific case where someone used a flash site for gathering personal info about the user. It was always not allowed on the cache page itself.

so do you think I could just say you have to play the totem destroyer game and not have the link on the cache page?

    #1939650

No idea. This is their rule. I’d run that through contact to see what they indicate.

I browsed a little on GC and couldn’t come up with where this NO FLASH rule is. can someone provide a link?

Or take it over to Opencaching.com, as their listing map is really wide open in your area………..

Maybe it’s just my anal technical nature, but I completed this cache and I don’t recall it being in violation of these rules (but maybe it’s the way I intrepret them).
“In the interest of file security, caches that require the downloading, installing or running of data and/or executables may not be published.”
Require downloading – Nope (it runs online)
Installing – Nope (it runs online)
Running of data – Nope (no data to download)
      Executable – Nope (it’s a flash application)
I understand this section to mean that you actually have to install or copy one or more files to your PC.

“Caches that require a geocacher to visit another website will not be published if the finder must create an account with, or provide personal information to, the other website.”
Create Account – Nope (at least not that I remember)
Provide Personal info – Nope (at least not that I remember)

According to my interpretation of these guidelines I don’t see the problem. I know it wasn’t our reviewers that archived it, so I certainly don’t blame them. It would have been nice however if the reviewer that archived it would have provided a better explanation to clarify the reason(s) for future placers that may have similar ideas.

I don’t make the rules (or even interpret them in this case). I would strongly suggest you direct your complaints to Groundspeak.
