Ok for my daughters birthday (she will be 9) she wants a Geo Caching kit. So my wife and I are going to put one together for her. Then on her birthday she wants to go caching all day. So we will be going to Fond du lac. I would like any suggestions for what we should put in her kit for caching.

    Thanks Everyone.

    Besides of course trading items:
    wash & dry wipes
    bug repellant wipes
    notebook,pen and pencil
tweezers to get the log out of some micros
    mini flashlight
    band-aids
    hydrocortisone for insect bites
    extra batteries

I could go on and on, but these are some good starters. My bag weighs about 10 lbs.

MGT hit the highlights, but I would add a compass and a nice fanny pack or small back pack to keep everything in. Something with lots of pockets.

Dont be surprised if it keeps growing though. I’m surprised Bill’s is only 10 lbs.

Some cache maintenance items to help improve the caching experience for the next finders, such as:

Plastic bags for CITO and/or to protect log books, TBs, swag, etc., that you may run across that may need it.
Working pens, sharpened pencils, and extra ones to leave in caches where they may have gone missing.

Sharpie, i know that is the only way I can sign some logs

Any allergies? Bees, hayfever, etc. Add some Benadryl. Water bottle?

Wow. A nine year old that wants to go caching? All day?
Must be doing something right… 🙂

We actually have two “kits”. One that stays in the car, and the other that goes along to the cache. The take-along one has everything mentioned, but I would add a couple of notebooks and logs for micros. Might as well throw in a few bison tubes and pill bottles. GT mentioned a small flashlight. That comes in handy even on the brightest days. An inexpensive digital camera…

The one in that stays in the vehicle keeps evolving, but right now it’s a very large zip-lock. It has some assorted small containers and larger swag items.

      granola bars…

a phone so you can have pizza delivered and then follow the delivery boy back to the car.

One of those cheap blaze orange vests.

All these are great ideas thanks a lot. I am sure she will love it.

Put it all inside an ammo box that she can use to hide a cache.

If you want a comprehensive list, The Complete Idiot’s Guide, appendix G lists over 50 items. I personally prefere to travel light.. Compass, GPS and flashlight. Anything more than that is an option.

For me, Geocaching kit = Boots, GPS, Compass, trail.
