Duh, I guess it helps to look at the map of the whole northern unit. Thanks Decrepit
Anyone care to comment on camping at Mauthe Lake vs Long Lake campground?
07/01/2005 at 8:12 am #1758954Personally, I like Mauthie Lake. Couldn’t get the best camp site for the meteor showers though. The one I got has trees.
07/01/2005 at 3:10 pm #1758955Enjoy the meteor shower (Perseids) – the are expected to peak around noon on Friday – so Thursday night (8/11) and Friday night (8/12) should be a good show – the moon will have set before the best viewing time too! The Perseids usually average 80 meteors an hour. With most being a magnitude 2.5(brightness of the stars in the big dipper). Many of them produce trains (colored tail in their wake lasting several seconds).
Best way to watch the show is to find a dark location, look east/northeast after midnight and look up about 60 degrees from the horizon. Get your self a reclining chair or blanket to avoid neck strain. Enjoy!

Ok, so I was off 0.2 miles!
But I’m by the right nameless road “twigs” on my map software. Also … remember do NOT post a “Will Attend” on the event listing, you need to sign up via the WGA thingy. I say this because I got all excited thinking I would be first to register and didn’t read first … but I deleted my “Will Attend” within about 30 seconds of making it. But then I WAS first on the WGA thingy … well, if you don’t count Ken, who most likely activated the thingy.

07/16/2005 at 12:18 pm #1758957Turns out that Anne and I will be joining the Hot Dogs at Long Lake camp for the weekend…
We should be there and set up by Friday afternoon. We’ll be at site #850. If you’re in the area and want to stop by… Feel free.. Maybe the thought of a smore or pudgie-pie may entice you?…
Anyhow, see you at the picnic for sure!!!

07/16/2005 at 6:17 pm #1758958We were really hoping to attend but have a previous commitment that weekend. Our sister/sister-in-law is running the Pavo Nurmi Marathon in Hurley and we need to be there to cheer her on. Maybe next year.
Timberline Echoes08/02/2005 at 6:29 am #1758959Is the WGA seeking donations for the picnic again this year? I think I’ll have football tickets to donate again that could be used for a door prize or raffle.
08/03/2005 at 1:15 am #1758960Thanks for the offer. Right now the plan is to not have door prizes this year. It’s been a lot of work to collect them, and the organizers have contentrated efforts on other aspects of the event this year — especially placing a lot of great temp caches.
