You are now able to register for the 2006 Geo-Picnic. Steps to register:

    – Go to the Geo-Picnic event page on the WGA website
    – Click on the “Register!” link under ACTIONS
    – Fill out the registration form and click the Add button

Sorry for the delay in getting the registration form posted, but there were some open issues that needed to be resolved before the form could be finalized.

The whole event registration system had to be revamped to work with the new website. So there may be some minor bugs and issues present, as this will be its “maiden voyage” so to speak. Let me know if you find anything and I’ll get it fixed ASAP.

Also note that with the new system you must be logged in to the WGA website in order to register for an event. So if you are not a WGA Member or WGA Friend, you’ll have to create a user account if want to register for this (or any other WGA) event.

I noticed that the cache page for the picnic says to bring food based on your geocaching.com username, but the registration page says to bring food based on your last name. Which is it?

In my humble opinion… it really doesn’t matter. Take a look at the list of what people are bringing and if you see too many desserts, bring a side dish or something to snack on… if there are too many snacks, bring dessert, etc. There isn’t a guard on duty saying that if you don’t bring what you were supposed to based on your name, you can’t come. It’s all for fun! So bring what ever you want.

    Just my two cents. 😛

I think it was or is supposed to be last name… at least that is the way it has always been in the past. I think there are too many Team X and GeoX type geocaching usernames to have a nice even distribution of names (not sure I could mathematically prove this though ;)).

But as Decrepit says, this whole thing is really just a guideline, and no one will be policing it. If you make a mean 25 layer salad using all organic vegetables grown in your own garden but find yourself in the desserts category, or if you can bake a gigantic cake and decorate it with all kinds of geocaching related things (see the photos from our first picnic) but are in the chips category, etc…, feel free to bend the rules. The big thing is that we don’t end up with many people bringing the exact same thing.

I have adjusted the cache page on geocaching.com to match what the registration page says on the WGA site to avoid further culinary confusion.

Another thought along these lines. If you are bringing, say potato chips, you do not need to bring enough to feed 175 people. Bring 1 or 2 bags, or 1 pan of brownies, etc. It always seems that there is food left over. Which is why I’m always one of the last to leave 😀 — but the point is some food does get wasted.

I’m not planning on buying any groceries for the next week — I’ll just take it all home! 😆
