is it just me or is anyone have strange things. when i go to the map it dont show smiles and says i didnt find anything. it wont give me the choice to hide my finds or my own caches. whats up with that.
04/23/2011 at 2:36 pm #1947021Yeah, I just discovered that it doesn’t have an option to “Search with Google Maps” when the nearby cache listings come up. I used that all the time. Now I have to click on Maps, then I get the Beta map, and if I want to see my finds and hides, I have to click Personalization, but I have to do that every time. And that doesn’t work when you zoom out to a certain degree. The maps are coming up slowly, too.
I don’t do well with change. 😕
04/23/2011 at 2:43 pm #1947022Yup, noticed that too. there is a note on the filter area of the standard map stating that personalization is not available at this time.
hope it works its way out soon.

“We made some last minute performance improvements for Pocket Queries to hold us over until we can get the new database server (and add other bigger performance improvements). We hope this will help us get through the Easter rush.
Also you’ll notice that the default map link goes to the beta maps. This is intentional since the older maps are pretty aggressively hitting the database, while the new maps don’t.”
04/23/2011 at 4:21 pm #1947024I’m not a big fan of the beta maps. The header at the top takes space away from the map.

It doesn’t look like the new maps hit the database at ALL given the fact that it doesn’t return any caches. Actually it’s been off and on but last time I went out there it wouldn’t pull back ANYTHING. I’d love the new maps if they worked – or if it didn’t use the exact same color of green for trad caches as google maps uses for park areas. When the tiny green icon shows up in a park you can’t hardly see it. Also don’t like the way it groups caches into color groups.
But even with that I wouldn’t complain if they worked 🙂 The site just behaves like the DB is getting pounded. It’s probably all those people running GPS files so they can use their OWN maps. 😉 (Wish I was one of them)
04/26/2011 at 3:42 am #1947026I want my maps and smileys back. It’s way too hard to do a bookmark this way….

04/26/2011 at 4:09 am #1947027I just saw that the database will be updated May 4th. I hope the smiley faces come back.
04/26/2011 at 9:58 pm #1947028i just want to be able to hide the caches i have found

That’s funny – I just want to be able to find the caches that I’ve hidden! LOL.
04/27/2011 at 3:25 pm #1947030the personalization (hide finds/hides) does work on the Beta maps. just check box personalization and click on the smiley or star to toggle. of course this is only visible if you zoom in to the proper level where the cache icons display and not just the squares.

04/27/2011 at 3:35 pm #1947031I was having trouble with it yesterday too. Now today it’s even worse! Ugh, don’t they know I need to feed my addiction?

04/27/2011 at 4:32 pm #1947032I’ve had no luck with any aspect of the site today. Another sign that a different pastime is in order, LOL.
04/27/2011 at 4:34 pm #1947033Slow an hour ago… OK now 8)
04/27/2011 at 8:15 pm #1947034Map bugs on GC.com are no longer an issue for me. I mark my finds in GSAK and I wrote a macro to automatically log a “TFTC” log for each new one I’ve marked. So there’s no need to browse the map to log the cache.
Yes – I’m kidding 🙂
