🙁 🙁 🙁 I was planning on being out the door at 6:00 AM. Shoot, now the honeydo list kicks in. I hope it’s up soon.

and a couple of twitters from CacheAdvance:
electrical onsite inspecting & attempting to dry out the electrical switch gear at Fisher datacenter -no ETA
Adhost website states that the systems may be up by 1pm Pacific. I remain skeptical but hopeful

Pinging the site doesn’t even work.
I tried a traceroute to see if it was my DNS server. couldn’t do that either.
Ping uses DNS, so if the Geocaching.com entery is gone it will not ping. Groundspeak (which is down too) must have pulled their DNS entries so they could stop inbound TCP traffic.
If you want to test to see if it’s you DNS server, just use the NSLOOKUP command. If you want to test a different DNS server, use the following command:
NSLOOKUP – 4.2.2.2
That will connect you to Verizon’s public DNS server. Then you can compare DNS queries to see if it’s you server or something else. In this case, it something else.Ok, for those non-geek speak users: Geocaching.com is down, and down hard. That sucks too because I moved a cache that was muggled and wanted to update the coords. Oh well…

Three words: Disaster Recovery Plan
Just ask Team Black Cat about it!

EXACTLY!
07/03/2009 at 6:24 pm #1905623Still waiting…this stinks. We totally had plans to be out all weekend – beautiful weather, no responsibilities, no commitments. I guess we will have to settle for exploding stuff in the backyard. Thank goodness we live so close to IL. No “safe and sane” fireworks for us! 😈
07/03/2009 at 6:25 pm #1905624per Facebook Jeremy Irish says: Adhost website states that the systems may be up by 1pm Pacific. I remain skeptical but hopeful.

07/03/2009 at 7:01 pm #1905625Same note I posted on the thread I put out this morning! 😛
07/03/2009 at 8:29 pm #1905626And maybe geocaching.com will crash again when it finally goes online because everyone will be flocking to the site, thirsting for a drop of water after crawling in the desert for days, or sucking on the oxygen mask after the hull was compromised in deep space.
07/03/2009 at 8:37 pm #1905627Wow…I seriously understand the power of Twitter now.
After coming back from a morning of geocaching and tying to log our finds, I couldn’t believe that I couldn’t get on the site! Not knowing what else to do, I searched for “geocaching” on Twitter and was caught up on the news within minutes.
Technology is cool.
Now…can the site come back up? Please?
I know (and hope…god, do I hope) that it’s an impossibility, but what would happen if Groundspeak’s entire collection of geocaches was somehow erased? I know that a ton of people would be able to help by uploading their GPX files and whatnot, but I wonder what percentage of caches that would restore?
I think I am going to save all my pocket queries now. You never know…07/03/2009 at 9:44 pm #1905628Anybody watch the video? No kidding — all data could be lost: pictures, profiles, etc. Hopefully geocaching.com did a back up at some point! 🙄

What video? Hey BQ, when we going caching again…I suppose after Groundspeak comes back up but really?
07/03/2009 at 9:59 pm #1905630We propose that due to the inability to access geocaching.com, each member be allowed extra finds to their total – 10 seems reasonable. 😉

Oh man. I don’t like this. I hope you are kidding.
