and a couple of twitters from CacheAdvance:
electrical onsite inspecting & attempting to dry out the electrical switch gear at Fisher datacenter -no ETA
Adhost website states that the systems may be up by 1pm Pacific. I remain skeptical but hopeful
this link has the news article and a video…doesn’t sound good
07/03/2009 at 10:04 pm #1905633Update from Jeremy Irish!!
“Temp repair is “on schedule to be completed by late this evening” for #fisherfire East. We’re in Fisher Plaza East #geocaching”
07/03/2009 at 10:20 pm #1905634Although, the thought of everyone starting out again at 0 finds does sound rather…intriguing. Team TurkeyTime could finally be tied with all the heavy hitters!!! 😆
07/03/2009 at 11:46 pm #1905635It just emphasizes the point that at some time all this is going to go away, and we’ll look back and say “remember when we used to go crawling around in the woods looking for tupperware?”
It’s not like this is really that important in the grand scheme of things.
On the Left Side of the Road...07/04/2009 at 12:20 am #1905636gotta run……..it is TOO important! I’m sitting here with the shakes….. My oldest daughter told me it’s just step one of the twelve step program that I should seriously consider! 😆
07/04/2009 at 12:45 am #1905637Twitter post a minute ago…”still getting the same reports that they are “on target” to get online late this evening” from geocaching CEO.
Here’s hoping!

Anybody watch the video? No kidding — all data could be lost: pictures, profiles, etc. Hopefully geocaching.com did a back up at some point! 🙄
What video? Hey BQ, when we going caching again…I suppose after Groundspeak comes back up but really?
The video from Fu’s link. If you read the article there is a news video that talks about the outage.
As for caching….heck I don’t know! I hope you’re planning on attending the West Bend events in August.
07/04/2009 at 12:58 am #1905639Has anyone memorized the 200 most recent logs yet? That same page has been up there since The Big Event.
07/04/2009 at 1:04 am #1905640Okay, last tweet said 4 hours…
07/04/2009 at 1:09 am #1905641Never got on twitter before tonight, but wow it’s useful when you are jonesing for geocaching.
A minute ago twitter said about 2 hours because the 2nd generator just got on site.
07/04/2009 at 1:36 am #1905642This is draconis (the son) finding something out from twitter. Not sure if this is old news or not, but:
nicco: RT @echoditto The ETA for power to be online is 19:30 PDT. Power loads for cooling will be carefully restored in stages. #fisherfire
There was a fire in a seattle data center electrical panel, which caused the generators to be immersed in water, which basically knocked out the primary and backup power supplies for the servers, on which geocaching.com is hosted.

07/04/2009 at 2:11 am #1905643WOOHOO!! Latest twitter report says power will be restored in less then 30 minutes.
07/04/2009 at 2:17 am #1905644I will believe it when I see it. If you think that GC is slow on Sunday nights, just wait till this gets back up and running.
07/04/2009 at 2:17 am #1905645Crazy!
We finally had a chance to go out Geocaching since we had our son in about 2 years today and I couldn’t reach geocaching.com from my blackberry. Good thing I did a pocket query earlier in the week so we manually entered the data in and were still able to get our son his First Find 🙂
I didn’t think about their servers being located in this data center when I heard about it until tonight and then saw it on the list of affected sites.
Tis good to be out caching again in either case.
07/04/2009 at 2:46 am #1905646well that explains a lot… couldn’t get on this AM..figured it was just my wonderful satellite internet connection…AGAIN…
I agree with you GR!
