But just think…..what if it ALL GONE! Everything…..gone……….
07/04/2009 at 2:59 am #1905648I guess that would be a good out for me. I have seen many places and had fun but I would say that I am done.

It’d make me very sad that at this point they didn’t have an off site backup. 🙁
07/04/2009 at 3:09 am #1905650Question: If nothing gets resolved tonight, will we all wake up tomorrow to find out that it is like Christmas morning, or will it be as if the sun didn’t rise?
07/04/2009 at 3:10 am #1905651I was just wondering does the WGA website have an off site back up??? If not, perhaps would be something to seriously consider.

Dawn of the living dead comes to mind.

According to the CEO, they cannot afford 2 datacenters. So, there is no backup. 😯 We have 52 active caches and never thought about maintaining paper backups. Ouch…
07/04/2009 at 3:20 am #1905654I have almost 100 hides. No back up what so ever.

It would mean that you were never at any of those places that you discovered because of caching.
07/04/2009 at 3:24 am #1905656Okay, Christmas morning is better. At least you know it’s coming; it’s just a matter of waiting. This isn’t the same. We have no idea what will be waiting for us once the servers go up. yuck… 😡

Ya need a web site to tell ya that? What about the memories?

You don’t need multiple data centers for backups. They could just be backing it up to disk/tape or another server maybe at an employees home. 😛
The biggest cost would be to have multiple active/active sites so there would hardly be any downtime noticed by customers. Remote live synchronization isn’t cheap but it’s definitely doable. Knowing the pricing I have seen I really can’t see how they can’t afford to do it. They just need someone to research data centers and transit providers to get the best rates. 🙂 I’m sure my current employer would cut them a good deal 😉

I’m glad I thought ahead and downloaded all of the caches we own and have them backed up on my Palm TX, also have all the caches we have found backed up on it as well.
07/04/2009 at 3:44 am #1905660WGA does have a backup server in a separate location. Jeremy can explain the techie details.

You wouldn’t have those memories, because caching would not have existed to bring you to those places.
