I tried to find an older thread to re-surface but I couldn’t find one. Just thought I would point out that the geocaching.com site was updated today. (8/2/11)

Groundspeak forum thread with info on the updates: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=279237

    Few highlights:
    • Added new cache attributes: Seasonal Access, Teamwork Required, Tourist Friendly, Tree Climbing and Front Yard (private residence)
    • Increased total number of assignable cache attributes from 10 to 15
    • Added an option in search results to highlight “beginner caches” (low difficulty/traditional type/recently found etc.)
• Added Twitter and Facebook sharing options to cache log pages, visit your profile or geocaching.com/my/sharing.aspx to connect your accounts

FYI, there’s followup in the Groundspeak forum thread regarding the Facebook log integration. If you enable it, by default all logs will be posted.

The settings can be found on the right side of your profile page under: Share Your Geocaching Experience

If you don’t want all logs to be posted you can actually un-check Update Facebook status when: I log a geocache on the website. When you log a cache as Found there is then a check box to choose whether to post the log on facebook.

Sounds like they delayed the release of the new GPX format until at least September.

I can hardly wait to see the forum discussion on the new “front yard” icon. The timing is ironic.

Didn’t really want to go there with this thread but I knew it would be mentioned. Had to be you…. 😛

Well, the attribute will help filter a pocket query. Now we just need a playground attribute and for cache owners to properly use attributes.

It’s nice to see them continually update and turn some of the feedback given into features of the product.

      Still no new “virtual” comeback.

I would seriously suggest the playground attribute to Groundspeak. I bet they would do that for the reasons you are implying.

Seasonal Access, Teamwork Required and Tree Climbing are all attributes I’ve wanted to see for awhile.

Seasonal Access is so much better than “Winter Available”

Already suggested on their feedback site: http://feedback.geocaching.com/forums/75775-geocaching-com/suggestions/1307791-children-s-playground-attribute?page=2&ref=title

Got an email regarding bringing back virtuals this morning:

This is a more massive project than you might realize and involves development of a new portion of the web site as well as accompanying mobile phone app additions. Our goal is still to have the feature rolled out prior to the Groundspeak Block party on August 20.

This new “Front Yard (Private Property)” icon doesn’t apply to the terrace hides that were the subject of discussion. The argument being put forth was that terrace hides were on public property, free to use by anyone, and therefore not qualifying as private front yard. So I see no need to bring it up a discussion at all. 😛
