I’m thinking about getting a new cell phone. SmartPhones are coming down in price so maybe it’s time to ditch my aging PocketPC at the same time. Anyone have advice on getting a geocaching-friendly phone? By this I mean one that would be good for paperless caching – e.g. be able to load a .gpx file and sort/search caches, much like I can on my PocketPC. Are there apps like GPXView and GPX Sonar (which I see is no longer supported) that run on a Microsoft SmartPhone?
I see from the geocaching.com home page that Blackberry’s can run Geocache Navigator from Trimble – that looks pretty cool. (Finds nearby caches based on your current location). But if I decide I don’t want the added monthly fees to run Geocache Navigator, same question as above -are there apps like GPXView that run on the Blackberry? The geocaching.com Blackberry page links to http://www.letstalk.com which has a BlackBerry 8130 (for Sprint) for free with a 2 year plan. $100 if you buy it through Sprint, so what’s the catch?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
