Thought I would post this for those of you not in Milwaukee. The Journal-Sentinel had an article today on “10 things to make this summer fun”. Number 4 on the list was geocaching.

    A quote from the article:

‘Do the “Pike Powder Hike” in Pike Lake State Park. It’s awesome.’

The couple paragraphs on geocaching were written by Stanley A. Miller II, the same writer who covered our 2001 geopicnic. (BTW Ken, how much are you paying this guy to mention your caches?)

I just read the article and went to the computer to post about it, then saw that Jeremy beat me to it. Hey, Stanley knows a good thing when he see it! One of the other writers wrote about hiking the trails at Devils Lake. Maybe the article will encourage a first finder to go to our Devils Lake Revisited cache.

Here’s my email exchange with Stan Miller, the reporter from the Journal-Sentinel.

    Ken,

The story I did on the Geocaching picnic was my best weekend assignment
to date, and I remember it fondly even though it took our team the
entire day to find one cache. The camp-out sounds excellent, although I
will be in LA at the time for a video game trade show. I am going to
bookmark that link you sent so I can keep up with what is going on.

    Thanks for the note,

    Stan

    Stan,

Thanks for the geocaching mention in the “Top 10” article in Sunday’s
paper. It was nice to see you remembered our gathering at Pike Lake last summer. Some of the other geocachers asked me how much I had to pay you to mention my Pike Powder Hike cache in your article.

In case you’re interested, those of us who organized the picnic last summer are at it again. We now have a web site (http://www.wi-geocaching.com) and we’re planning a camp-out at Governor Dodge State Park west of Madison to be held the weekend of May 17-19. You’d be welcome to stop by, of course. We already have 81 people registered to attend.

    Ken Braband
