Channel 13 in Eau Claire just had a news segment on how local tourism directors are going to start promoting geocaching. It may be on again at 10 PM. It wasn’t bad, but the reporter referred to “scavenger hunt” and they also showed the exact location of the cache. It was the “S”ence of Eau Claire cache by bnb. Hope it doesn’t get muggled! It was one of our first finds.

My mom taped it for me, but I haven’t seen it yet. I hear kent1915 was featured.

Yes, Kent and kids were on it. You can watch it from the WEAU website.

Thanks for the link, bnb, but I couldn’t get the video to load – so I guess I’ll just have to wait a bit.

Read the online article, tho. Why do these things always have to mention “buried treasure”??? Let’s have a pact: From now on if any one of us is interviewed, we gotta stress that geocaches are not buried. I’m not saying Kent said anything wrong, but some of these reporters don’t understand how implying that a shovel to dig holes is required can hurt the sport.

I did like the mention about how the Visitor and Convention Bureau is looking to use geocaching to increase tourism – a hopeful step in the right direction.

In humble defense of myself… My neighbor who works for Convention and Tourism narced me out to the TV station; they called me and I got drafted. I also took my son, Jim 1830, Jolly Giants, his kids and I tried to hide… It didn’t work!!! Then, they wanted to follow on a hunt, their idea. We get 100 feet down the trail of my River Bluffs cache, the reporter falls on her kiester and the camera guy nearly goes off the cliff; we had to go to plan B for “s”ence of EC. I asked that they not show too much of the surroundings. They did any way. Smart folk. As far as buried treasure goes; I WAS CLEAR we DO NOT BURY CACHES!!!!! I was, however, edited and edited and edited. I also mentioned environmental stewardship and CITO, they thought that was boring too. Hint to you in the future. You get a call from a reporter? RUN!!! I should have learned from the past (I had a run in with Primetime live years ago about a child abuse case I worked on…)
