Many of you know of the requirement to place a long diatribe (boiler plate) that says you must contact Rhonda Veroeven who will report directly to James Weisnstock for permission to place a cache in Madison Area Parks.I was approached by WisKid at the Ca$h Ba$he who told me that Rhonda had quit and asked if I would look into taking that over. I did a little better than that.
The requirements as listed still exist but the volunteer reviewers will check that there is no digging, not in flower beds or conservation parks or in Resurrection cemetery. What is no longer a requirement is having to contact anyone locally or put a big long boiler plate message on your cache page. I confirmed this with Charlie Romines who is now the Park Operations Manager…James Weisnstock has been gone for years…and he said they do not have any problem with geocaching and there is no one in the parks department that reviews cache placement.
I am removing the boilerplate message from all of my caches and to avoid any confusion to new geocachers, I would recommend all Madison area cachers who have caches in city parks do the same.
I’m certain the requirements on the WGA site will be updated shortly.
Next windmill…Dane County Parks.

09/20/2011 at 11:58 pm #1953361So, the requirement is to have the listing reviewed the way that every other listing in the state is currently done? Gotta love bureaucrats.
Thanks Commander for taking care of this!
09/21/2011 at 1:36 am #1953362Way to go CommanderUSN.
09/21/2011 at 12:09 pm #1953363WTG Steve. I look forward to a whole new world of caches in the Madison area. Good luck with the county. I have tried myself and all they want is that 20 bucks. I guess we can say Your the man.
09/21/2011 at 12:27 pm #1953364Thanks to all the parties involved in making this happen. I think we should especially thank the local municipality for working with us. This is a HUGE step in the right direction from a communication standpoint.
09/21/2011 at 1:31 pm #1953365Excellent work, Steve.
09/21/2011 at 3:48 pm #1953366Excellent. So where do we submit to get a cache reviewed?

๐It might be a good idea for you to do a little more finding before you get into hiding if you don’t know the answer to that. Start by reading all of the information on hiding a cache on geocaching.com.
09/22/2011 at 2:42 pm #1953368Great news! Thanks Steve, and everyone else who was involved with this.
09/24/2011 at 3:32 am #1953369And thanks to Rhonda for all of her hard work in the past – getting caches approved in Madison parks.
09/29/2011 at 11:47 pm #1953370Thats great news Steve. I’ve avoided placing caches in Madison parks because of the long, drawn out approval process. I’ve heard other locals complain of 30 day (and longer) delays.
Nice job and thanks for taking the initiative on this.09/30/2011 at 5:16 pm #1953371This is awesome news since we are in Madison quite often to visit all of our crazy relatives. Looking forward to visiting some of those parks. Thanks for the work on this one!
The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board.
