Trying to figure out the interest level in Wisconsin Geocaching Association developing/minting Wisconsin Geocoins? I have a soft spot, I know, for these things. As far as I’m concerned, we have USA and Canada ones, California, Greenman, etc. BUT, if Tennessee can have a geocoin shouldn’t we?!?!?!?! What is the interest level?

I think a coin order would work with pre-orders. I have a Email from a guy who did a few called NurseDave. I can pass his email on email if needed. Anyways said that if pre-order there is no upfront cost of purchasing. I think we could get almost 200-300 sold just in Wisconsin alone. So I think it would work.

Smokey, yeah, if you can pass message on it would be great. I’d like to see how much more interest, so if you know others who might be interested, have them say so here. The next question is design. Obviously (or not so much so, depending) have a state of Wisconsin on one side, but what else? Ideas? Do we need to have some WGA board members endorse this idea and have them sell these things on the WGA store?

What would the price be roughly per coin on a 300 – 500 coin run for an example?

Would it be safe to assume that these coins would not be trackable like normal Geocoins?

The idea sounds interesting to me, but I’m not sure I would drop more than $20 or $30 myself on say 10 or 12.

    Call me a cheapskate!

Looking around, coins would cost around 2.75, quantities for 100-300 with 200 die fees that are one time. So, in other words, 2oo to set up dies that would be kept on “file” for reorders and then it would be cost of coins only, all types of finishes, etc. Thoughts?

The avarage price for coins ive baught are around 3-6 dollars and maybee 1-2 or more for shipping depending on how many you buy and how fancy the die is.

Ive also seen in the gc.com forums that for tracking you have to have a min. of 1000 at 1.25/coin so that may have to be included or deleted. Guess it all depends if you want to track it on gc.com.
they have new websites were you can track them with numbering systems, but its not involved with gc.com so you have to go to another site to log the coin. So its all on what the people want.

To keep us more efficient about the geocoin topic, let’s consolidate our comments over in the Suggestion Box forum. In the meantime I’ll close this one. Thanks for your input!
