Honestly I cannot recall the last time I saw a coin in a cache…even travel bugs are hard to find these days. Has anyone else noticed this reduction in travelers or is it just me?

I have noticed it, even in the Travel Bug hotels along the I-90. My favorite one vanished in California. 😥 I had someone check on it and it’s gone.

It’s weird because I don’t see them on Ebay? Private collections?

Definitely fewer than “way back when.” Also the excitement of players around finding a traveler isn’t there–used to be people would dash to a cache, or revisit, if a traveler was in there.

From my point of view I won’t release any more because they are a waste of time and money. Most get lost or stolen.

Several waysides on i-80/90 from IL to MA had missing bugs, I’m with GR and have heard many echo similar comments. Some coins are a fair investment and its a impact to see those walk into the unknown.

I just dropped 4 in a cache in Coloma this past weekend. I still see quite a few of them.

Really?! I run into them all the time. I just placed 4 of them on Sunday in a TB hotel and picked up another.

We have a few out there but the ones that we can make good copies of, we do, even the copies seem to go missing. Weather it is people not knowing how to log them properly or people stealing them, they end up missing. Like it was said coins can sometimes be expensive so it is very disappointing when they go missing.

Obviously there are lots of travelers out there so it’s just a general observation. The appeal of travelers wore off quickly, especially for our kids, who would release a TB only to have it disappear after a few months, or even a few days.

That’s just our experience, and one that comes up every time the topic of TBs is raised it seems.

Ya I agree, the intent of this thread wasn’t really to hash out how/if they all vanish, but rather to see if folks have noticed a decline in the numbers of them out there.

…it is entirely possible that there are just so many more caches now that the same amount of travelers have more places to hide and are thus not found as often. I just can’t recall seeing even one in my past hundred finds.

I’m not one to move coins or TB’s unless I feel the cache is in a high muggle area and might get taken or if the coins/TB have been in there a while. If the coin has an Icon associated that I like, I’ll either write down the number for discover or take it and move it myself.

But yeah, I noticed the lack of coins and TB’s being moved along.

I have no coins or TB’s released in the wild. All are in my possession and I currently have 3 coins and TB’s owned by others that I still have to move along yet. One was a TB that was in a high muggle location that I felt would get taken and go missing so I grabbed it.

I agree – TB’s and GC’s are more like collectors items now than items to be moved along.

I was thinking about this after posting this morning and I think there are just 4 times as many caches as a few years ago and the TBs and coins are still the same number from a few years ago?

I still think it’s fun to find them.

I am still seeing quite a few out there. I still enjoy moving them and checking back from time to time to see where those I’ve moved in the past have gone. It seems there are so many more micro caches, I sometimes have a hard time locating a good place to move a traveler.

It’s hard to fit travelers into bison tubes.

thats exactly it. So many more micros popping up everywhere, and nanos, that could start another debate. Though it seems the travel bug hotels are the most found caches. Usually they are empty as well.
