I know last year we took 2 vacations and did some serious caching during both. We did the South Carolina Delorme during one trip. This year we are planning a cruise and are actually looking at what ports have caches nearby in hopes of getting rid of a few islands while we visit.
I know that we are not alone in doing this.

What I am curious about is we have enough cachers who would like to work together to get a large enough group we could get a group discount and take a collective trip?

My thought would be something along the lines of a cruise and take advantage of a group discount in booking, maybe collectively find a cache near the ports but basically come and go as individuals.

I have no idea if this is feasible but if we would get enough of a response I would be willing to do some research and meet with a travel agent (if we dont have one in the WGA) and see if this could be done.

    Your Thoughts?

Oh, would that be cool. I sure wish we would be able to go along.
If you don’t get enough interest from the folks here, you might try the GS forums.
Looking forward to the forum blogs of that trip!

My thought would be in the March-April time frame of 2010. We would be looking at cruises that would leave from a Florida port. From Miami we have seen Eastern Caribbean trips that include stops such as the Bahamas, Beileze, Mexico and Houdouras. Western trips including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and other stops. These are generally 7 night cruises and can range from $475 per person for an inside cabin (note cabins are double occpancy). This does not include any air to the port but I suspect if we get enough interest we could get a group rate.

Now I am not suggesting that all of us would have to do inside cabins but that is a starting point. I just looked at one that was the Eastern Destination as described above that is $1200 per person for a mini-suite so if you wanted to bump up your accomitations there would be that option.

Additionally, if you have any questions about cruising, we have done one and soon our second, ask we maybe able to help answer them.

If I get 10 seriously interested parties I will start communications with a Travel agent and see what we can do

Put me down for seriously interested, and I like the time frame and location that you propose.

I have cruised twice, and except for the air fare, quite affordable and a good value. Cruised once from Miami to Key West and Cancun and Cozemel. Also cruised once from New Orleans to Belize, Honduras and Cozemel. I did prefer going out of New Orleans, and that would be worth looking at, as air far may be cheaper. There are also cruises out of the Texas ports.

We would be very interested. We thought about doing this sometime this year. We seem to cache more on vacation than at home sometimes.

Sounds like a blast. Unfortunately, I will have to bow out due to a trip to Europe later in the same year. I just hope that I am able to do a little caching there.

I have cruised the Pacific a number of times. Got sea sick a lot!

    Also get air sick!

    Hmmm…… Maybe.

Awwww… I feel bad for you Furfool. 😥

    😉
I think finding at least a couple caches would be an imperative duty.

I will be taking my family on a cruise in the western Caribbean leaving one week from today! I hope to get a few caches in Key West, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and the one earthcache available in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It seems like the caches in these locations are hit regularly by cruising cachers.

We have a cruise booked this year and have already found that there are caches at all 4 of the destinations, plus the departure city. It seems that the locals in a few of the locations know of the caches and know what a GPS unit looks like so they can offer some help
