Per AAA the portion of 1-90 known as the Skyway that connects Chicago with Indiana is closed from all traffic until after Thanksgiving.
This I know would affect all cachers heading to MWGB that would be coming from North of the IL state line from 1-94 (Kenosha area) and I suspect this would affect cachers that would be entering IL near the Rockford area as I believe they would eventually be heading to the Skyway.
AAA is recommending to (in my case coming from Milwaukee) stay on I-94 and instead of taking the Skyway take I94 until it meets up with I90/I80 in southern Chicago.
Please plan accordingly.
Hope to see many Wisconsinites there!!07/18/2008 at 12:59 am #1892375thanks for the heads up.

07/18/2008 at 1:52 am #1892376We are planning on going north for now and go around the lake and come down the west side of Lake Michigan and then we might just take the ferry from Michigan to Milwaukee.
Thanks for the tip.

The catch is, of course, that the tolls are much higher. The big advantage of the 94/Skyway route is avoiding I-94 in Northern Indiana, which is often congested. Without that advantage, the probability of hitting horrible traffic on the 90/94 coming into Chicago is too much risk to save the tolls.
07/18/2008 at 3:36 am #1892381Plans are for drhaas and Trekkin’ and Birdin’ to be traveling together. Thanks for the heads up on the traffic situation, Dean!
07/18/2008 at 11:33 am #1892382We have made the trip through Chi-Town annually, and have found I94 or I294 both to be nightmares, but then I hate freeways. My preferred route is to take I94 and exit the Edens at Cicero Av and take Cicero straight down to US30. It will add about an hour to the journey, but it helps to preserve my sanity. BTW… we make no stops on this segment other than at the traffic lights. 🙄
07/18/2008 at 12:50 pm #1892383Thanks Team DeeJay-After seeing how comments my local AAA office left me merging back into the construction (oh fun)
I did look at their website and found to use their mapping program you do not need a member and where it is similar to Mapquest it warns you of construction (which none of the others do that I know of). If you want to use their mapping go to http://www.AAA.com and under the Travel header locate and click on Directions & Maps-Triptik07/18/2008 at 2:48 pm #1892384I will be there.
