I just ran across this in the Groundspeak forums & wanted to share it here, as it looks to be a great idea! http://jeep.geocaching.com/
This promotion is being supported by Groundspeak and Geocaching.com

05/04/2004 at 3:18 am #1737162From what Jeremy Irish posted in the general forum (see below), and from what I read in the admin forum, it looks like the WGA and other regional associations will each receive an allotment of these to place in geocaches.
From Jeremy I:There are two programs. The first is the sweepstakes for 3 Jeeps that will be given out this year. It’s a standard drawing.
The second program is the 4,000 die-cast yellow jeep wranglers with their own custom travel bug attached. There will be a monthly contest starting June 1st through December 25th where a prize will be given for the best photo, and another award for the best essay relating to these found travel bugs. Jeep were really psyched about promoting the activity and they wanted to create a unique concept that would allow the largest number of geocachers to participate. We discouraged the placement of caches due to the limited accessibility to find them (and the “Mad Mad World” phenomenon we’ve seen in the past). We’ll be distributing many of the bugs through local organizations, and another 1,000 will be available on the web site for people to request and have shipped to them for free. When we start taking requests, we’ll have a section on the http://jeep.geocaching.com web site.

05/04/2004 at 5:34 am #1737164Jeremy told us all about this at the Admin meeting this past weekend. We’ll probably be getting about 100 Jeep bugs to hand out to our members.
We get to have fun looking for yellow jeep travel bugs, and Jeep is buying GC.com a server farm, Yea!!!! They are also purchasing the stamping machine for making travel bugs. GC.com will be able to make their own tag and not order them from an outside source. We are very excited about it!
Hopefully thanks to jeep, the servers will be able to handle the weekend demands.

05/04/2004 at 11:49 am #1737165Oh cool!!! This is so awesome!!! I’d love to win a new car!
05/04/2004 at 5:40 pm #1737166What a great way to increase awareness with a huge corporate sponsorship.
Now, if we could get the same thing to get GPS units into the hands of youth groups and other non-profits to increase education!
05/11/2004 at 10:23 pm #1737167I got an email from Nate today. I told him to put me down for 100 Yellow Jeep travel bugs. They hope to get them delivered in a couple weeks.
Once I get them, Groundspeak is requesting we distribute them as quickly as possible. Maybe one of the Breakfasts will be a good time to distribute them. Otherwise I will make some other arrangements. Hopefully they don’t all end up in one corner of the State. Too bad they wont be here in time for the WGA campout.
05/13/2004 at 4:34 am #1737168Just a request from another part of the state. Please find a way to distribute some elsewhere than the lower corner of the state. There are a bunch of very active cachers in other places that I’m sure would be willing to send on a TB or two. (Found on Earth 4 Now, Bobcat and the other cachers in the New Richmond area come to mind because they’re near me. I’m sure there are others across the state.) – BnB

06/04/2004 at 1:47 pm #1737170I finally received some awaited news on the Jeep travel bugs:

Hi BrianWow, so much for the rush job. We didn’t get the TBs until yesterday but we were finally able to send you some. You’ll be receiving a package of 80 yellow Jeep TBs next Tuesday. Feel free to distribute them however you
see fit. Thanks for all your help!Kind regards,

Groundspeak – The Language of LocationI can’t wait to see how they turned out. Remember, this is part of a Jeep promotion. My (our) job is to distribute them rapidly and get them into circulation. No fair keeping them

[email protected]06/05/2004 at 4:41 am #1737171I was just about to post to ask about those! Looks like they’re on their way.
06/08/2004 at 10:56 pm #1737172I have the Jeeps !!!
I’m hoping to schedule an meeting this Saturday and/or Sunday morning to distribute them. There should be a total of 80 Jeep travel bugs. Again, we need to distribute them around the state asap.
If you would help start a Jeep t.b. on it’s journeys, please post a message here. Also include the area you can place them in. I’ll set up the game plan based on the responses.
Based on the response, I may be able to give people a few of them. If not too many are interested, I can give more per person. On the reverse side, if there is a huge response, you’ll be limited on how many you can receive.

06/09/2004 at 12:34 am #1737175I’m headed to north central and northwest WI and will be happy to get some Jeeps on their way.
Brian, will you be at the Mother of all Breakfasts? It will be a great opportunity to distribute some.
