Hi all! Looking forward to getting to know you better. What are your goals for geocaching in Wisconsin both personally and for the WGA? What would you like to accomplish while you are on the board? How would you accomplish these board goals?
Please note: my comments are mine alone and may not necessarily reflect an official stance of the WGA Board of Directors.
01/10/2022 at 7:37 pm #2069258Hi Mark,
GREAT QUESTIONS!!
Goals personally for Geocaching in Wisconsin;
– To finish the SPS series!
– To work harder at the WGA GeoArt.
– Occassionly chip away at the IAT series if I am nearby while working to do the previous two, or because an event brought me close to it.Goals to accomplish if on the BOD.
– Yellowstone Trail. I am pretty excited about the idea and want to be heavily involved in working with the current BOD to get this off the ground.
01/10/2022 at 8:41 pm #2069262Hey Mark!
I have a couple of personal caching goals this year –
– Grab at least one cache all the way north near the Apostle Islands
– Continue chipping away at the “Mystery every day” challenge cache (thanks to another cacher for getting me hooked on challenge caches this last year!!)
– Continue the IAT series and maybe even finish it off this year (bit of a stretch goal)
– Find Alvin or Walter (GC3ZMA7) — Seriously…anyone have any tips on this one they’re willing to share???
– Grab the oldest cache from the neighboring states (close enough to a Wisconsin specific goal)From a BOD perspective, one thing I want to achieve is to see what I can do to help with the WGA Website, as I have a background in web design and it’s something I enjoy doing on the side. The more I browse the website, the more thing I find that could be improved.
From a non-geocaching perspective, it’s to buy a house, but we’ll have to see what the market does this year!
Take care!

01/11/2022 at 10:36 pm #2069268Hi Mark,
My personal goals for geocaching in Wisconsin include doing the Ice Age Trail series, continuing to add geocaches in my area (Roberts), and adding more puzzles that help newbie cachers learn how to solve puzzles. I really can’t wait to be able to do Geocaching 101 events again! I’m also looking forward to being able to do more CITOs in state and local parks, to give back to the areas that I so enjoy exploring!
As far as WGA goals, I am intrigued by Jason’s comment about the Yellowstone Trail. I don’t know the scope of the project, but I’ve been involved with the Yellowstone Heritage Trail committee in Hudson for quite a few years, either hosting or attending CITOs, and last year I got to host the Military Vehicle Preservation Convoy event where 50+ restored vehicles traveled along the Yellowstone trail from West to East. Very cool! Obviously I would like to be involved. I’m not sure how I would help accomplish the BOD goal, since I don’t know what it is, but it would be fun!

01/12/2022 at 10:12 am #2069283Hello!
My personal goal right now, is the Wisconsin counties. After that, I will be hitting the Delorme challenge. I know a lot of people choose to do these together but I love traveling so I am always looking for an excuse to go for a drive. I would also like to take a stab at the D/T grid and see what I can do with that but that is minor.
As far as the board goes, I would like to see about starting some new state wide achievements. We have the IAT which is AWESOME in my opinion. I understand they are a lot of work and I respect that. I would like to see more of those come up.
01/12/2022 at 1:11 pm #2069290Hi Mark,
My personal geocaching goals for this year are to:
- Complete the Badger State Challenge (counties).
- Begin the IAT series.
- Create and place 3 favorite-point-worthy caches in my area.
- Create and donate a memorable cache for a hider at both the spring and fall campouts.
My goal for the board would be to increase communication between the board, WGA members, and the public. I would love to see a subscription-based newsletter. I am interested in coming alongside others to help them achieve their goals.
01/14/2022 at 12:05 pm #2069310Personal geocaching goals are to continue to discover new parts of the state through caching. While Covid has been a curse it has given us the opportunity to really explore all of the great parks and green spaces within an hour of Madison. We have so much more to learn. This past year we finally placed our first caches (19) and two adventure labs so in 2022 we want to complete the Monona Vegetable series of caches (5 more to place). And hopefully hold a local event (see next comment).
Having only participated in a couple of WGA events since moving back to Wisconsin (due to Covid) I think there is an opportunity to promote more local events and gatherings that are encouraged by the WGA vs. owned by the WGA.
01/15/2022 at 8:08 pm #2069319Personal geocaching goals include working on the IAT series over the next year. We have found 2 so far. Since we finished finding at least one cache all the Wisconsin counties a couple years ago, we would like to find at least one cache in all the counties of another state. So far, we have about half the counties in Iowa and Illinois. We are two caches away from completing our terrain/difficulty grid, so hoping we can get an opportunity to finish that, but it will likely involve travel to another state.
As far as goals if elected to the Board, I would like to find ways to get more people interested in and excited about geocaching, including looking at what other geocaching associations are doing that might be interesting to build on here.
