Hi all:
Thank you first and foremost for running for the board. As a BOD member the last two years, I know how much work it takes to be on the board and organize events and WGA series. Its fun and rewarding when it comes together.
I am wondering – why do you want to run for the board? What are your geocaching goals personally and for the board over the next year? Do you think you’ll have the time to put in a couple hours or more each week to reach those goals?
Please note: my comments are mine alone and may not necessarily reflect an official stance of the WGA Board of Directors.
01/11/2023 at 7:01 pm #2071150I was very excited to be nominated for the WGA BOD because I believe that there should be a mix of veteran and new cachers. I consider myself a new cacher because I have only been an active member since June 2020. My personal goals for this coming year, besides reaching 2000 finds, is to utilize my Geocaching 101 display as often as possible to educate future cachers about this fabulous game. I plan on duplicating my display for the Board to use in southern Wisconsin.
My goal for the board would be to promote the education of geocaching and events throughout the state. I am retired but work as a lunch lady in my local elementary school and only work “on call” as a trolley driver in Stillwater, MN in the summer, so I have the time to attend meetings (Zoom/Slack?) or in person. Thanks for your consideration.
01/11/2023 at 8:12 pm #2071153I was flattered to be nominated for the WGA board, but really had to give it some thought before accepting the nomination. I haven’t served on boards before, and being a somewhat newer cacher with a passing awareness there IS a BOD, I had to give it some serious consideration about whether or not I had the right stuff. What tipped the scale was that it would be a new experience for me, a chance to learn more about the WGA, and have the chance to (hopefully) make a positive impact in the far northwestern section of WI.
My personal geocaching goals are to cache more on the Ice Age Trail & fill in more WI counties for caches found. I’ve reigned back on trying to hit goals like caching every day or hitting a milestone by a certain date.
I feel I will have the time it will take to reach those goals. I’ve made the decision to not work right now, which has freed up a lot of time to do other activities.
01/11/2023 at 10:12 pm #2071156I had been approached to run a few times over the years. At this time, my life is such that I can devote more time than ever to the WGA.
One area I would really like the WGA to work on, is advertising the Ice Age trail AL’s. We have done so many great things, but feel it be nice to draw cachers from outside the area to experience what we have to offer.

01/12/2023 at 10:37 am #2071166I think of this as a fun challenge and a way to stretch out of my comfort zone a little bit. I was surprised to be nominated do not take it lightly. I love the idea of being a part of something bigger than just geocaching.I also am a homemaker currently so a a few hour’s or more a week to contribute is very doable. I love this game so much that I tell people about it every chance I get. One way I have found is through my vlogging. I kind of started that by accident by that first little video I got a lot of response by people who have never heard of geocaching and was very intrigued and wanted to know more. How fun to expose people to such a rewarding hobby and you get to make silly videos to boot. 😆 I say all of that because my goal is the same. To get more people aware of the game and to inspire people to get out and get caching.

01/13/2023 at 8:46 pm #2071175I’d like to help WGA continue to promote geocaching throughout the state and keep the game interesting to both new and experienced geocachers.
My personal goals are to continue to work on filling all the open calendar dates and state park series. I’m slowing working through solving the WGA geo-art series puzzles over the winter so I can make those finds before it’s retired later in the year. And though I don’t expect to make the top of the LCG points list by the end of the year, I always enjoy the challenge of getting out and finding (or at least trying) a few of the lonelies each time a new list comes out.
I’ve declined a nomination in the past due to concern of having enough time to commit to the board. However, with my list of soccer board responsibilities getting shorter this year, I do finally feel I’d now have the time for WGA.
The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board
01/16/2023 at 1:14 pm #2071189I’m running because several people I respect have encouraged me to do so. They believe my skills as a leader and someone who gets things done would serve the WGA and its members well. If it weren’t for that encouragement, I wouldn’t have even considered running. I’ve always just tried to help where I can (typically in front of the grill). I’m happy to step up when asked though.
My geocaching goals this year continue to be the same since we started: see interesting places and have good times with fun people. Becca and I do plan on spending some time with the IAT series and picking up a few more Y2K caches.
Time isn’t a problem for me right now.
01/19/2023 at 4:08 pm #2071209In 2022, the members of the WGA BOD expressed how much they wanted to see more member involvement in the WGA. As the year started, it was a period of time just getting everyone up to speed on their roles with the inner workings of the organization. As we got into the groove, we were well into revamping the newsletters, planning events and merchandise. I have held this desire in the back of my mind as a goal for WGA that needs some planning and organization to really see it happen.
Some of my WGA goals:
1) Volunteer Roles – write out the various roles that WGA needs volunteers so we can recruit and bring on more member volunteers in meaningful roles with clear duties, expectations, responsibilities, training and accountabilities.
2) I am currently working with our graphic artist to have the 2023 theme and artwork ready for new BOD approval at the initial meeting. Members made it pretty clear in 2022 they expected to see it at the spring picnic so to make that timeline in 2023, we need to have it ready when the new board starts.
3) Travel Bug Race – working to write out the rules and process for the race.
4) Updating/revising – WGA had a brochure or perhaps it becomes a QR code that links to a page on the website – something that can be given out at Geo 101 classes and events to invite potential new geocachers to the WGA.
5) BOD Operations – We need to create a behind the scenes calendar of the planning timelines for the yearly calendar of the WGA. With the board turn over each year, this will help with the continuity of things.
Some of my personal Geocaching goals:
1) get caught up logging my finds
2) Planning a couple of geocaching vacation road trips – be it the next section of the Lincoln Highway (already completed from Omaha, NE thru East Liverpool, OH), the Yellowstone Trail Adventure Lab Series, starting the Route 66 Adventure Lab series or just a week focusing on geocaching.
3) Planning the 20th Anniversary Waukesha Janboree Event
In summary, I am retired and a very part-time small business owner so I am seeing my time opening up to work on tasks. I feel that I still have knowledge to share with the WGA and enjoy mentoring board members.
