I have figured out that we are remedial geocachers–it often takes us more than one try on caches that everyone else seems to find. So our goal a lot of times is to make the DNFs disappear (did two of those today). Luckily, we have been able to revisit most of the areas where we had the DNFs.

i had a goal for this year to delete the rest of the duplicate logs, and to hit 1500 caches found. hit the 1500 today. so now i have no goals except to get out a little more than i did over the summer.

I make it a “goal” to try to find a cache each time I travel away from home (be it for work or play). This makes each trip a little more exciting than it would have been had I not discovered geocaching. It’s great to get out and see more of the area you are visiting rather than just sitting in a hotel room and watching tv or sitting at the relatives house and watching tv.

I don’t really have much of a goal as far as numbers. I like milestone finds though.

Sometimes I have goals. Especially if I go caching with Marc. THen his goals for the day become mine. 😀

I make it a goal to notbreak any bones while out on the trail.

We never seem to ever go anywhere with the sole purpose of caching
but always try to combine caching with any trip we take. Most trips
are not planned but are spur of the moment when I don’t have work
to do. (Haven’t had a lot of those moments lately and the price of gas
seems to limit our tripping.) If we know we are going somewhere, I
pick out a few caches along our route that meet our criteria. Our goals
are always the same. Find caches at new, interesting, scenic places
that only a local person might know about and because we always
have a limited amount of time, caches that are “easy?” to locate.
Another goal we have is to AVOID caches that seem to be generic
hides or ones that seem to be deliberately made more difficult for
no apparent good reason. We are happy when we find as many as
6 caches in one day. If one or two of those are special, our goal
    has been accomplished!

When I started caching with a former gentleman friend it was nice to plan on what & where the caches are hidden to just be able to get away from home for the day or weekend. But when he decided it was more important to set goals on how many caches or counties or pages to do when out that is when I decided it was fine for him & no longer fun for me.
However with this past spring I reevaluated when & where I would go caching IF I was going to go out caching. I have found that I cache when I have nothing better to do when I am up north…………but who wouldnt want to just relax by the lake enjoying the sights & sounds of the lake get away while the weather is still nice to enjoy it without freezing…….lol

When the snow flies & the weather gets colder I am sure I will be thinking more & more about caching & getting out there.

I do have my lists made for grabbing when the mood hits me.

Since I work nights and my kids are in school during the day, we really only get to cache on weekends. We’re also the type of people that really only want to be outside when the weather is decent, so I keep an eye on the weather and what our calendar looks like, and if we’ve got a Saturday or Sunday with nothing to do, we like to head out at those times.

I try to plan those weekends at least a few days in advance, and I’ll spend some time during the week downloading and printing cache info for the upcoming weekend. Our only real goal is to try our best to grab each one of the caches that I’ve printed/downloaded. Other than that, as long as we have fun, enjoy the weather, and get to spend quality time together as a family, that’s all that matters.

I guess the answer is sometimes.

My main goal is to have fun and explore new places, see the unexpected, and learn about different places and different people.

With that said, I do keep a couple of goals in the back of my mind, and I think that these goals are helpful in helping me choose where I want to go.

So here are my other goals:

    1. FTFs. I would like to get to 1000 FTFs. I was able to get 9 more today, so am at 761 now. This is pretty much my main numbers related goal, and I really enjoy the FTF pursuit, though I know it is not everyone’s cup of tea. The downside, which I consider small, is that it decreases the finds possible per caching trip since I generally have to go out of my way in pursuit of the FTF.

    2. Caching Partners. I keep a list of folks that I have cached with, and would like to get the list of folks that I have cached with to 100. Right now, the list is 74 people long, so I have 26 to go.

    3. DeLorme Challenge. I really like doing the DeLorme Challenge caches because it gets you to far flung areas that most people never really see. So far, I have completed WI, IA, IL and hope to have the MN DeLorme finished before the end of the year.

    4. County Challenge. I like the County Challenges for the same reasons as the De Lorme, though I have not yet completed one. I have plans to finish the IL County challenge this winter and spring, and then the MN County challenge next summer.

    5. Keep up with THB in total finds. I dont really care a lot about the total find count, but it has been a fun friendly competition to keep even with Team Honeybunnies since we both found 2K, now over 2 years ago. I hope to be able to keep up with THB for as long as I can, though that probably wont be realistic past next year. Seth and I have talked about finding an “all day” cache to do together next summer to find our 10K milestone cache together, if we are able to work it so as to find our 10K find together.

Even with that list of goals, all of them are secondary to just getting out and having fun.

I don’t have any firm goals. I wanted to reach 750 caches this year. I just passed cache #900, so I guess that goal is met. It would be neat to reach 1000 finds by the end of the year, but I’m not working too hard to get there. If caching starts to feel like work to me, I’m not doing it right. I just want to find caches, hang out with great people and have a good time.

I guess those are my goals.

Not really a goal-oriented cacher and certainly don’t follow the numbers in the “find” side of the equation. In fact, I usually make light of my milestones and pick caches that have little to no meaning for me.

On the “hide” side of the equation, I did have a goal to place 2 a week for my first year which I came pretty close to accomplishing. I then switched gears and my goal became to place 100 puzzles before my 2 year anniversary which I succeeded in doing as well. Those are the only “2” goals I can think of.

When it comes to the Lonely Cache Game, I never set out to be a major contender nor did I have the goal of coming in first or second place. That ranking was more a function of playing off of Sagasu’s veracious approach and keeping that fun rivalry going throughout the year.

Right now, while I’m on a 3-month hiatus (with an occasional LCG run), my only goal is to keep my many caches active and keep Dave guessing about his first place lead in the LCG.

Agreeing with some others, without reading all response before replying…

No goals. other than to be outside.

      #1897477

We’ve met all our major goals, which we’ll admit to having. Like Ralph, the goals simply help us focus our caching trips, which ultimately are for exploring and getting outside. We do them all, but will always be “woods and waters” cachers at heart. That’s usually how we choose our direction, too, though with all the gun seasons starting up, we may become a bit more urban for awhile.

Our one remaining goal is to try and place caches that take an interesting twist or bring people to the kind of place we enjoy ourselves, and to keep on top of those caches for maintenance to prevent anyone from having the kind of experiences we seem to be having lately. 🙄 We have one hanging out there we want to re-do, because it’s not really in line with our philosophy. Too many DNFs, we don’t want people to DNF a cache of ours. Enjoy the location and get a smiley. Trekkin’ wanted to try something different and it’s not the best spot to have done that, it seems.

I generally do not have a goal in mind when I go out. Just getting out and seeing new places, spending time with family and friends and meeting new people along the way is a great goal to have in the first place.

You got that 100 Percent right Don. Couldn’t agree More.
