Hello fellow cachers,
We are StfRon, a husband and wife team, originally from Peoria, Il. We have been caching since 2006. We have found caches in 35 states, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Canada. Since we have been inactive for many years, our count is relatively low. We’re excited to be back in action.
Happy to see the community still alive, But am very Disappointed in the ratio of micro to regular size caches. We rarely seek or enjoy micro caches , also very disappointed at how quickly travel bugs disappear, this was one of the things we enjoyed most, watching our TB’s travel across the world.
Tried to copy paste my GC profile to now avail, look us up and friend us “StfRon”
04/24/2020 at 7:59 pm #2066348Welcome (back), StfRon. There are many active geocachers in your part of the state. Perhaps you’ll meet some more Wisconsin cachers when restrictions are lifted. Until then, there are lots of options for virtual interaction.
04/27/2020 at 7:37 pm #2066376Welcome back Mr. & Mrs. StfRon! Wow 35 states – you’ve certainly been around! Although we find any size cache (or at least try to), we also prefer non-micros, preferably in green spaces or next to a river, lake, or waterfall. There’s even places that fit that description in Milwaukee (especially since we’ve placed a bunch of them there). Your observation on how geocaching has changed since you first started is spot on: trackables don’t seem to last very long, and what was once almost exclusively size “regular” caches with decent swag involving a pleasant hike, it’s now gravitated toward a lot more micros and an explosion of smartphone-only geocachers. We still love it, but we do have our preferences. Some good news – now that you’re in Milwaukee, you have hundreds of geocaches to choose from all within 10 miles of your home. Keep on caching! 🙂

That is one thing I like about geocaching is just the variety of whats out there can appeal to many interests. Some like the long hikes and large caches in the woods. Some like the tough small clever hidden micro in the city or maybe work on a puzzle. Others like getting numbers and seeing how many they can find and more. If there is a type you don’t like, you don’t have to look for it.
Personally I like all the above, sometimes time doesn’t always allow for a good hike but looking for an excuse to get out of the house and sometimes a micro is what does that. I enjoy a good puzzle on a rainy day. I enjoy having the variety of whats out there.
Sadly yes most of my precious Geocoins and TBs stay at home with my in my collection, usually just generic TBs I send out now so my feelings aren’t hurt if it gets lost. But at the same time, trackables still move and have a few that are still getting some good travels in.
Once again welcome and hopefully can meet in person eventually.
