A while back, I built a switch box for loading coordinates between GPSrs and a laptop at event caches. Other than at the event it was built for, it hasn’t seen much use.

It was always my intent to make it available to any event organizers that could use it and, a year later, I’m finally getting around to mentioning that fact.

So, if anyone has a need to use it, just let me know and we’ll make arrangements to get it to you

I would like to thank TS for making the device, which he did for the Secret of Stonehaven event last April. It works great, except for the egg plant interface.

I’m usually one of the people sitting behind the “download” table at the WGA events. If it isn’t too much trouble, it would be great if we could use this gadget.

TS, do you plan on attending the campout? Please contact me at: wga2 dash admin at wi dash geocaching dot com to make arrangements.

P.S. I noticed you placed “Eggplant” above “Magellan” on the selector switch. I’m guessing it is actually easier to download waypoints into an eggplant than a Magellan.

TS showed me the inner works on the box last year … it’s not about being easier, but about the wiring connections needed. Quality eggplants make use of all the signal connections, like Garmin’s do, while Magellan’s are missing a couple connections, so it was easier to put it last on some of the broken contacts on the army surplus switch he bought.

I’m sorry that I’ve taken so long to respond to a topic that I started; things became very busy suddenly…

I’m glad you guys had fun joking about eggplants; that started as a joke between me and EnergySaver. Nice job, Cheesehead Dave, adding the user interface to the eggplant. Using a plain eggplant for geocaching is a lot like divining for water with a forked stick.

Yes, Tie, of course you can use the switchbox for the WGA campout. And yes, we intend to attend the event, schedules permitting. But it’s probably best to get it to you a couple of weeks before the event as we may be late in arrival or unable to attend. I’ll contact you via e-mail to arrange things.
