MemberAbout two weeks ago, the local radio station, 95.1 WIIL announced the annual Three Lock Box contest. Every year they give out very vague hints to the location of a key, hidden somewhere between the suburbs of Chicago and Milwaukee. Find the key, open the box, get an awesome prize. Sounds sorta familiar right?
Last week they gave out the final clue, and as I was listening to the radio, a man called in and claimed he found the box. I was bummed. he told his story about where he went, and what he found. He said He went to the Lincoln statue in Racine, and there found coords that took him to a locked ammo box, so he was calling the station for the key. The Rock Jox quickly made fun of the guy, saying the key was hidden, not the box, and that he prolly found a geocache. The man insisted he won the contest. He later took the box home. Following me here? I called the station and let them know it was a local cachers Mystery Cache called “National Treasure” GC27R43 . I gave the station my number and asked them to pass it on to the man who took it.
The following morning the man called the station, again they put him on the air. The man alerted the jox that he smashed open the container to find his prise, still not believing he hadn’t won.
In the end they talked the man into dropping the cache at the radio station, which he did do. The owner of the cache will be picking it up on Friday, to find out whats left.
Another great reason to write GEOCACHE on the side of your caches!

MemberIn this case i.D.ing the container as a geocache may not have helped… The guy seemed to have been convinced that he was a contest winner and nothing would dissuade him of that misconception… But I agree that caches, especially those that could be prone to muggling or Bomb Squad abuse, would be better off being labeled…
