Hey, has anyone else been watching this thing develop? Looks to be a possible “all in one” caching software solution…

Go see!!

Team Flushingrouse01/31/2004 at 12:23 pm #1746830It looks interesting, but exactly what is it? They need better a better “all-in-one” concise description. Maybe it’s just too early in the morning for me.
01/31/2004 at 1:22 pm #1746831I’ve played around a bit with some of the earlier beta versions of this prog… Always seemed to work fine.. What the developer is doing is to take ideas from different users and incorporate them all in this one program…
You can sort, upload, import, export, create html files, all from one screen.. I don’t know if it covers all the bases yet, but it’s getting close.
The one thing I don’t see, is a Plucker type of operation….yet…

Team FG01/31/2004 at 3:56 pm #1746832I really like it. I’ve been using it for some time now and haven’t run into any problems with it. It has most of the features of Watcher but also has the ability to upload selected waypoints to your GPS. The author is very responsive to suggestions and has been making huge improvements in the software.

02/29/2004 at 4:59 pm #1746833I downloaded the newest version and opened a GPX file with it. What does it do? If it could covert the file so it can be opened in USAPhotoMaps, it’d be great. I don’t see how it can though. Can it?
Now that I have the Garmin 60 with the lightning fast USB, I’d like a quicker way to open files in the serial only program.
02/29/2004 at 5:29 pm #1746834Hi Steve,
What exactly is is you are trying to do? A gpx file can be opened in USAPhotomaps without any conversion. In GSAK, once you open the gpx file, you can go to “file” and then “export” where you will see a drop down list of every file type I have ever needed.
GSAK will also arrange waypoint listing order in about every imaginable way. Want to know what caches are the oldest? No problem. How about what caches have not been found in the longest time? It’s a click of a button. It also makes it easy to pick a central point to start a days caching, and list all caches in order of distance from your start point. Filter out certain caches based off type, difficulty, owner, etc, etc, etc.
The only thing I don’t like about it is it doesn’t use all the Garmin images for cache type representation. I think it will in an upcoming version though.

That is a key reason for me to give it a try!

Can you show me how to do this this weekend? We are headed on a major road trip this summer, and this would be vital!

Have it on your computer(s). The author has made it even better in the recent release.
I just loaded my own GPSr an hour ago using a combo of my I94 filter and other filters.05/14/2004 at 3:20 pm #1746840quote:

I’ll bring my laptop to the campout. Rumor has it you guys might need a laptop for morning GPS loading?. You are welcome to use it. I have GSAK, Easy GPS, Spinner, Plucker and Mapsource 4.x. Should be well equipped for whatever you may need.
05/25/2004 at 12:41 am #1746841We’re leaving on a trip west on Friday and want to cache along the way. Would someone be able to give me a crash course in polygon filtering so I can build a list of caches within a certain distance from our route?
Thanks,
Ootek05/25/2004 at 12:54 am #1746842I would like a little help here too. I was hoping to get some at the campout, but there were too many caches to find.
05/25/2004 at 1:14 am #1746843Ootek and Cathunter,
I believe(never done it myself),
that what you’re looking to do is hit any caches within a certain distance from your route, say 10 miles or so.. Right?
What you do then, is create another set of waypoints which follow your path. this will make up the “arc” you wish to filter from…
Better yet, read this: http://www.gsak.net/help/hs4800.htm
