GSAK has rudimentary automation or macro support. So, what would the macro look like if I wanted gsak to automatically place my home coordinates within the data base, then export the database to Mapsource?

    Sounds simple, huh?

Can’t help with the macro, but if you want to put your home coords or any other coords in the database just go to the “tools” ; “options” ; and then “locations” and enter the info there.

Then it will always be in the database and will export to whatever map programs you use.

    Randy,

Here’s something that may be able to get you started… Some of which is gleened from my automation script for GSAK…

    # Load latest pocket query
    LOAD file=”C:Documents and SettingsBillDesktop14737.gpx” Database=”default”
    # Load Randy’s Home Coords
    LOAD file=”C:Documents and SettingsBillDesktoprandyshome.gpx” Database=”default”
    # Export to MapSource
    Export Type=MPS File=”C:Documents and SettingsBillDesktopgpxplushome.mps”
    EXIT

In the first line you’re loading the specified file… I just put the querry(14737) from my email directly on my desktop. And it automatically loads the file in “default” database. You can make it load into any database you have from any location on your computer.

Second line, you’re adding your home coords from a separate .gpx file you keep on your desktop forever(randyshome.gpx). The only wpt in there is your home coords…Make sure that when you are loading the second .gpx file that it does not clear the “default” database first, or overwrite anything… you can configure this by clicking…FILE/OPEN GPX/LOC in GSAK

Third line is the Mapsource export. You can export to anyplace you wish with any filename…

Save the “three” lines into a file named something like GSAKcommands.txt on your desktop.

Create a batch file named AutoGSAK.bat on your desktop. It should include these lines:
    CD Program FilesGSAK
    gsak /run “C:Documents and SettingsBillDesktopGSAKCommands.txt”
    EXIT

When you want to automate, all you do is double click the .bat file!

Randy, I know this looks and sounds really confusing but, once you’ve got the hang of it… It’s really fun!! Email me directly if you have any more questions…
    [edit]
Obviously you’ll have to switch out a couple of the “Bill”‘s to “Randy”‘s for file/folder locations on your computer.

Is this accurate? Those locations are used to build indexes for bearing and distance.

To have my home and other important locations in my exports, I created waypoints of type ‘other’ and they are treated like any other cache waypoint (they even get cache pages).

As far as macros go, they are still too weak for me. I figured I’d let other users work with Clyde to make them robust. Until then, I’m going to let my fingers do the walking.

With the help of Flushingrouse, I only have to press one button on my desktop which in turn, loads the pocket query into GSAK, including my home coordinates, then produces a palm pda cachemate file, which is synced to the pda, then loads all of the caches into mapsource. All with one press of a button!

So, as you can see, my fingers don;t have to do all of that clicking anymore!!

    Talk about lazy, huh?

    #1748064

Briefly, here are the files. The first is an executable file.
    # Load latest pocket query
    LOAD file=”C:Documents and Settingsrpaske.R_PASKEDesktopNew GPX/30889.gpx” Database=”default”
    # Load Randy’s Home Coords
    LOAD file=”C:Documents and Settingsrpaske.R_PASKEDesktopNew GPX/home.gpx”
    # Export to MapSource

    # Export to HTML and remind me to HotSync.
    Export Type=CMT [File=”C:Documents and Settingsrpaske.R_PASKEDesktopNew GPXsync”
PAUSE Msg=”Remember to Plucker and HotSync the Palm!”

Export Type=MPS File=”C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsMapSource”

Following is a file that is saved as a batch file.
    CD Program FilesGSAK
    gsak /run “C:\Documents and Settingsrpaske.R_PASKEDesktopNew GPXGSAKCommands.txt”
    EXIT

there are a few other changes which have to be made in GSAK.

    Simple, enough huh?

OOPS, good catch Jeff… it’s actually spinner that is adding my home waypoint.

I prefer spinner’s smart truncated cache names over GSAK’s, so I use both GSAK and spinner.

    Great stuff from Flushinggrouse! Thanks!!

Needless to say, I’m a huge GSAK fan so take it for what it’s worth… But you can do SMARTNAMES with GSAK. Read about it here… http://www.gsak.net/help/hs22160.htm

I just thought you may want to know..

    Happy Caching…Er, I mean Happy Geocaching….
