When we use DNR parking areas, there are usually some informational and regulatory signs posted. We tend to glance over them, but in the last couple of places we’ve been, we have noticed a new one (for us). In this photo, it’s the lower right sign with red lettering:

This post is not meant to draw DNR bashing or Big Brother comments, but does anyone know how long the possible use of trail cams on DNR property has been around? Has anyone run across one? We were thinking, since littering is mentioned, maybe there has been a problem of trash dumping at the parking areas. Other ideas? Should we be thinking twice about what we do in the woods? 😉

Man, I’ll have to check twice before the next time I use a port-a-tree!

that has crossed my mind too. 😀 Hate to see that pop up on Utube!
I have seen these signs in several DNR land parking areas. I have yet to spot a camera.
(could these be a deterant like the “Radar Enforced” speed limits through the small towns that probably would not have enough money in the treasury to purchase a radar gun?)

My thoughts exactly. I got to wave to some fine folks a few year back during deer season, but that was REAL not MEMOREX.
10/21/2009 at 7:59 pm #1915516This concept kind of peaks my interest though. I was thinking of doing a “maze” style multi on my personal land. One of the things I was thinking of doing was adding a trail cam and then posting the pictures to the gallery. I was going to search the cache placement guidelines to see if this was addressed, but know you’ve definately got my interest.
I’ve also done 2 caches recently which had security camera “bubbles” within 10 feet of the cache. I’m sure I showed up on somebody’s tape, but you can’t really avoid it these days. These cameras are everywhere.
10/21/2009 at 10:25 pm #1915517I have seen something like this in Minnesota. We figured out the camera was located within a fake wood duck house. Our inner high school sophomore had many evil ideas of things to do near it, but we allowed our grown up selves to prevail.
Too many other people around, is all!
10/22/2009 at 1:15 pm #1915518I thought I saw one like that on Rib Mtn. Not the bad ribs side but the area where people can hunt.
10/22/2009 at 3:55 pm #1915519i think they are more concerned with large dumps. Like form trucks or trailers. Ive come across a couple at DNR lands around me.

On the Left Side of the Road...10/26/2009 at 6:31 am #1915523I used to work with the DNR and am hoping to get another job with them. those signs are deterent signs but are also trail cameras are up in some areas where things are countinouisly bad. You will also see signs at location where wood is sold and ice that states 24 hour survalence cameras watching this area. Not all campgrounds have them but SOME (2-5) due. Hope this helps with some questions.
I worked for the Kettle Moraine Southern Unit and there is a trail called nordic ski/hiking trail. I was there to clean the bathrooms after cleaning the restrooms I watched a womens dogs dropp a package off she cleaned it up then proceeded to look for a garbage can when I told her this was a carry in carry out trail she argued with me that there is nothing stating that in which there are signs stating this is a carry in carry out right where she grabed the bag from to clean up the package she told me that was stupid and proceeded to walk away with package in hand. She then threw the package behind the building thinking I wouldnt see it. Normally if she would of asked me nicley I would have taken it for her but since she didnt I wasent going to offer (plus she was really yelling at me how stupid it was carry in carry out). She walked away onto the trail along came my buddy ranger rick I told him about what happened he then took pictures and waited. I left but later on ranger rick told me she came out dog dropped another package in which she didnt pick up so he gave her a ticket for that along with littering ticket. The reason I am telling this story is because most people dont even look at the signs or even read what is written. Then bash the DNR for giving out tickets on stuff.
