I’m going to make a try at Bong this Sat. I sure could use a few pointers on the caches that will be very difficult to find in the snow…..anyone wanna help me with some intel?
PM’s would be OK if you don’t want to share on the boards…I really would be appreciative of the help.

I thought about going that direction but decided to play it safe……. 😉
Though I have found two of these items so far while geocaching… 😕

I would of laughed either way. But I came from a High School, that alot of that crap floated around like Air!!!

We actually had two students try to take the little bag of Marijuana that the Drug Enforcement Officers brought for show and tell in our health class Freshman year!!!!!!

Put the whole school into lock down. Idiot students…

I would not have taken offense to it, like I said, I would of laughed. That is why I mentioned it!!!!!!

I’m thinking of the caches in Bong SP. I don’t think many would really be affected by snow cover. Most of mine are good to go. Most of Search4menow’s are good to go.

It’s been a while since I found the caches in the central part of the park (north of hwy 142) but it seems most should be accessible as well.

There’s A LOT of caches at Bong SP. I’m sure you’ll easily be able to snag 10 or 15.

    10 or 15 ? I was hoping for a few more than that……. 😈

There is 2 North of Hwy 142 and 6 South of Hwy 142 in Bong that could be difficult to find with snow cover. Then again you could always get lucky like I did recently and step into a 3 foot snow drift and hit something solid and dig it out to find a cache. The only cache I haven’t found in Bong is Geocaching – It’s a Wonderful Life. I haven’t hunted this yet. So, other then logs I have no idea how difficult it might be.

So are there any of these in particular you would recommend me passing on with the current snow cover?

Also looking at the map and it looks like there may be more than one way into the park; is that the case?

There’s parking all over the park except for the area north of highway 142 – that’s a hike-in area. If I’d take a guess, which is what I’m doing, I’d say there are 25 caches (givish or takish) in Bong SP.

Highway 142 cuts the park in half. Lots of multiple use areas to the south, so lots of parking lots. Brightendale Golf Course and a county park (with several caches) is bordered by highway 75 and 142.

There’s a parking lot on the northern end of the park to access the central caches. Still a bit of a hike – but worth the journey.

I PM’d you a file with Winter related cache hunting info.
Hope it helps. If you have any problems let me know.

The one that WOULD have given you trouble (“Whats in a Name”) has been archived. We found it in the winter after a 40 minute hunt. The far south caches, Bing Bong and Horsing Around, should be findable but more difficult. Depending on the snow level, The Adventures of Captain Klutz might be a little difficult, but should be easier now since the brush has been cleared. King Bong Reader Exchange, Blue, Yellow, Red and the finals for Poof and Santa Claus might also give you some problems depending on the snow depth. (If you need skis or snowshoes, these will be more challenging.)

“Geocaching – Its a Wonderful Life” will be MUCH easier in Winter, as the final is in some of the thickest bushwacking I have ever done (which I did as a night cache in the summer – almost didn’t escape!) Everglade Pitch and the two Troll caches should also be easier now, but bring your boots just in case!

Oh and don’t be surprised if you don’t have huge numbers. To find ALL the caches in the park, I believe you would need to hike on the order of 10 miles, and that assumes you take an optimum route. And don’t forget to grab the nearby caches in Brightondale Woods and the Burlington School Forest while you are there.

Based on the intel I have gotten (Thank You) it looks like I will be leaving with about 15 caches found…I hope. I think I will leave the South East caches for my next trip. I’ll be wearing tall boots (no not the waders I bought for the Gauntlet  ) so even if it warms a bit I’ll be A-OK.

    Thanks everyone. 8)

Oops, forgot one thing. The parking for Captain Klutz and Vista Trails is closed for the winter. You could park south and hike across Highway 142, but my recommendation is that you ask to park in the orchard just to the north of the Captain Klutz first stage and hike south. It might be nice if you buy some apples or wine or something….

That might be a problem as I’m deathly allergic to apples 😯
    Thanks for the heads up.
