King Boreas over in Minnesota has over 1000 hides. But …. there is a lot of, should I say, problems?

    Better Quality over Quantity.

This is a hot topic as there has been much debate on how many caches can one cacher truly maintain, how many quality caches can a new cacher place since they’ve only even seen a few to use as examples, etc?

In my personal opinion, I’d hold off on the placements for now. You’ve got a good start at finding and hiding! Go out and find some more, get some more examples of what’s out there. Also, wait to see how people receive the ones you’ve placed–see what suggestions they have, their comments, and whether or not the maintenance is doable. You’d be surprised the observations people make that you never would have thought of and how much repair/replacement needs to be done.

Welcome to caching and we look forward to meeting you at the events!

You mention King Boreas… it’s funny, his name comes up in alot of forum. Guess why I don’t cache much in Minnesota anymore? Too many of his caches. They really discourage new cachers from getting into the activity. Searching for garbage with wrong coordinates. That’s not much fun to me.

    Hi Lagrac,

I actually cache quite often in Minnesota, and I have to say that I enjoy it. King Boreas hides are generally findable, if ya widen your search area to about 50 or 60 feet diameter. Also, there are some great areas along the bluffs of Winona that I really like (thanks for having the event down there.)

And when ya head into the Twin Cities, look for hides by Posen, Paklid or Mustsley and Crew. They are almost always very creative fun hides. There are a lot of other really cool people hiding in MN, so it is easy enough to avoid the rusty tin cans and cheap plastic margarine containers that King Boreas puts out.

We are hoping to start nabbing some of your caches! We had reached a point where we’d covered pretty much all the caches on the first two pages when we’d search on CG.com, but that has changed!

We decided we’d try to place a new cache with every 100 we find, if we can ever agree on a theme, where and how! LOL Since we’re at 61 and Trekkin is, well, trekking this weekend, I think we have some time yet to think about it.
