I think I got it.
I was trying to download caches in Texas, and the Garmin must not list them if they outside of a certain mile radius?
Is that radius thing correct?? any Garmin owners??Correct. I’m not sure what the distance is, but I think it’s 100 miles. This is only true if searching via “Nearest”. If you search by “Name” then you should be able to see them.
BTW – Mapsource is provided free with all Garmin GPSr’s I think. It was free with mine anyway.

This is an interesting question (the radius thing). We were looking at ours, which currently has a couple of nearby caches loaded with the rest located near the Dells, which is over 100 miles. The furthest one was about 125 miles away.
11/18/2010 at 9:37 pm #1938915Thank you to everyone for your help. This is one of the greatest parts about these forums, I knew I would get a great answer.
I still will miss my Megallan, but I will switch over to the “dark side” on the trip. I think Garmin is missing the boat on not letting you better seperate them. Oh well…
You guys are FAR better than the customer service at Garmin, they could only tell me that I need to download them one at a time. Or use their website and download up to 5 WHOLE GEOCACHES A DAY!! Thank you for your generousity.
Thanks again everyone. I am very interested also in the radius thing. It seems odd to me.
11/19/2010 at 12:18 am #1938916I know this is of no help, but I’d thought I mention that I have a Garmin Etrex Venture HC. I love it and I have no problems sending caches to it via GSAK.
I filter what I want to find on GSAK then use it to send up to 500 waypoints to the device though I usually send like 420-450 waypoints so that I have room in the device to enter manual waypoints.
I’m not sure how the Legend is set up, but I’ll say this – I love Garmin and will not even consider getting another brand of GPS when I’m ready to upgrade.
11/19/2010 at 2:21 am #1938917Kind of late chiming in on this, but our old unit is a yellow eTrex H. We hand-entered every cache on that one because the connection was serial, not USB. We also have a Mac and don’t use GSAK, so I don’t have any answers for that.
As far as a radius, caches don’t show up unless they’re somewhat in the neighborhood, and then only a certain maximum number of them. Might be 100 miles, but I don’t know. Alphabetical is always shown by groupings (0-9, A-D, E-H, or whatever), so those are always available.
