I did a cache near my home yesterday… It’s a new one.. Very fun!
Anyhow, surrounding the final I saw what I consider to be Poison Ivy. I had to reach through it in order to grab the final container… I’ve let the cache owner know and am waiting for a reply…
Let’s make one thing perfectly clear! I’m not a P.I. expert! Wish I was!
I got a major case of the stuff about 2yrs ago that has made me super paranoid! I’ve read books, looked at websites, but I’m not 100% sure I can ID the stuff…
If you click this link, you’ll know what cache I’m talking about(it takes you there) but that’s where I posted a couple of pics…

08/15/2004 at 8:31 pm #1740007I have temporarily disabled this cache, now I know what poison ivy looks like. I will be looking for a poison ivy free zone for this cache relocation. Sorry about that
08/15/2004 at 9:55 pm #1740008yes, definitely poison ivy — although I’ve been told it comes in other forms too. Rather than disable the cache, maybe just post a warning. I’ll come in close contact with the stuff a few times this summer and seem to be immune to it, so I’d still be willing & able to hunt this cache.

I say raise the terrain or difficulty a point and give ample warning.
08/16/2004 at 2:51 am #1740010Yep, that looks like Poison Ivy. A couple things to note when identifing:
Each leaf has three leaflets
The two leaflets closest to the stalk are almost touching and the third leaflet (the middle leaflet) has a small stalk of it’s own
P.I. comes as a small plant (like your pic), a plant with a woody stalk about waist high, or as a vine growing up the side of a tree
Each leaf (set of three leaflets) are alternate, as opposed to oppositeJust a little piece of info I’ve collected on my journeys.
08/16/2004 at 5:30 pm #1740011Even after seeing those pictures, I bet I’d still never recognize poison ivy…. ;o
I just figure if the leaves are shiny, I don’t want to be near it. I hope that’s a pretty decent rule of thumb.
