Ok, i picked up this Geocoin, and it wasn’t logged it was dropped in the cache i found, i get home and punch in the numbers thats on the coin, and GC.com is telling me that this doesn’t exist. but it does cuz its sitting in my hand! I’m at a lost with this geocoin, the really weird thing about it is its a GC.com Geocoin, i don’t know what to do.. anyone with some suggestions?
09/21/2006 at 6:06 am #1765898maybe the person who owns it didn’t activate it or the paper slip with activation code/coin number differed slightly from what was actually on the coin so they activated the wrong coin number(it does happen).
I guess I would check the logs on the cache where you picked it up and see who dropped the coin off, maybe they can be of some help.09/21/2006 at 1:05 pm #1765899Confusing I’s and 1’s and O’s and 0’s can happen all the time too. Try that 8) .
09/21/2006 at 1:49 pm #1765900I agree, the “1” and “I” and “O” and “0” thing has got me on my own coins. Why not have the slash mark through the zero’s and the little flag part on the ones? Or just leave out the O’s and I’s all together?
09/21/2006 at 2:16 pm #1765901well thats just it, i looked through the logs and no body mentioned anything about dropping off a geocoin, so i don’t know who did it..
and i have tried the “O” and “I” thing (actually it was only the “O” there is no “I”‘s in it… Cuz thats what i thought also, but no such luck..09/21/2006 at 2:33 pm #1765902I’m assuming your ALSO saying that the coin is NOT showing as being in the cache you found it in.
If that’s the case, then the likelyhood that the coin was never activated by the original dropper is very likely. Which means you’d need to get the activation code, from GroundSpeak.
IF you’d like further help … contact me directly with the code number on the coin … I’ll verify your efforts in trying digit combinations and contact GroundSpeak for you.

I’m only asking to make sure….
How do you know it’s a GC.com coin?
What type of coin is it?
09/21/2006 at 8:21 pm #1765904well its has Geocaching.com on it, the symbol, and tells you that you track this on geocaching.com, and has groundspeak on it too, it looks like the USAcoins
09/22/2006 at 5:00 pm #1765905You can go to www dot usageocoins dot com to retrieve the activation code. Then click on the “USA” link (top left on page). Once there, enter the info to retrieve the code. Go back to GC.COM and start the bug on its way. You can activate it and drop it into the cache where you found it, then pick it up…that way it will start in the right place.
Sometimes people drop things into caches without posting. Kind of a special treat to the next seeker. We’ve done that more than once! Dropped coins, bug tags, jeeps…we don’t post them because we don’t want a bunch of people running out to a cache just for the goodies! We like them to go for the cache! We usually put a note with it though. It may be that the dropper of your coin simply forgot. You can always contact gc.com later to have the ownership transferred later if you find the original owner made a mistake. They are very helpful about that stuff!
Good luck!
