As it turns out, Collectables Cache did not do well in the fire back in April. The final ammo can has gone missing.
This is a spectacular geocache — a nice LONG walk, and plenty to see. But it needs some maintenance. The cache owner has asked that I ask if anyone would be able to help him out, as he wouldn’t be able to get to it until July.
Would someone be able to stop out here in the near future? If you save coordinates, you can just replace the final and all will be well. Or someone could do the whole multi (3 part), and thereby check to ensure all waypoints are in good shape. And then replace the missing final. Obviously, you can just use standard geo-swag, as this is a replacement (no special collectables needed unless you’re super-nice!)
Please post here if you are able to help out, and then again when mission is accomplished!
Thanks in advance,
Bec06/21/2006 at 6:24 pm #1762956Digital Dan just did this one. He may be of some assistance for info on any waypoint markers. I’ll give him a jingle and post something.
06/21/2006 at 7:25 pm #1762957I did this cache a month or so ago, and the first two wpts were OK. I’ll take this on as a little project and get a new cache box placed near where the original final was. I’ll report back when I’ve completed that…. may be able to get out there yet TODAY, we’ll see.
06/22/2006 at 1:37 am #1762958I fixed the Collectables cache this evening. The Final is now is a new location, maybe 500ft or so from where the original final was. I updated WPT2 to point to the new final location, and verified that WPT1 is still there and in good shape. If you want to pass along the new final location to the owner, let me know and I’ll send you the new Coordinates.

Please send the new final co-ords to my admin e-mail address. If you ahve the intermediate waypoint, I’ll take that too. That way we can keep other caches from encroaching.

Thanks for doing this.

Dan, a big thanks for doing all this work to keep this great old cache alive! In its day, this was probably the toughest and most talked about multicache in the state. It would also qualify as a “quality newbie cache” for T&tB’s list as Sam (Yawningdog) placed this about 20 days after starting geocaching. (Of course in 2001 we were all really newbies…)
I was fortunate enough to find this one when there were still good swag items left (and the coordinates took you straight to the final ;))… I framed the “White House” print I took and it is still hanging in my home office.
06/22/2006 at 7:05 pm #1762961Glad I was able to help. I know I was disappointed when I tried this one awhile back, and found it was missing. Hopefully others will now be encouraged to go hunt this one.
06/26/2006 at 4:47 pm #1762962Thanks you very much Dan! As this is one of my favorites, I keep an eye on it. Your log got me to contact the cache owner and start this whole ball rolling.
So glad that it’s back in play!
