The WGA is looking for a turkey decoy or decoys to be used at the WGA Geo-Picnic. We are looking for the collapsible kind that are on a post that lets them swivel… it can be either a hen or a jake.

(And no it is not for a creative temp cache, but for a new activity that is being planned for the event. The WGA will guarantee that your turkey will not be harmed in the execution of this activity. :))

Send me a PM or post here if you have a decoy that we can use. It would be great if one of the event organizers could get their hands on it before the event so it can be set up early the day of the picnic.

Have you gotten any responses? There is a house that I drive past frequently with a sign out front “Turkey decoys – $5” They are painted wood, not 3-D replicas, but would do nicely if nobody else has decoys to bring.

I could have the kids whip up some of these for you …

I guess it’s all about how authentic we want them to look. The decoys I saw actually look like a real wild turkey.

I have a few of that sort. However, my wife is going to a scrapbooking retreat that weekend. I have to take care of the kids and she won’t let me drive them that far. 😥

If zuma! or someone else were going to cache up near me in the next several weekends, my turkeys could be available. They’re a little beat up but have the posts and still swivel. However, someone closer probably has the same sort of decoys because turkey hunting is much better in the southern part of this state. Our zone (38) was the farthest north area to hunt turkeys for several years.

The decoys seem to work. I had a hen turkey attack one of my decoys! She continue to knock it and peck at it until it eventually fell over and it stopped moving. I considered getting out to fix it after she left. However, out of the corner of my eye I saw a tom coming in. I left the seemingly dead decoy there and eventually got the tom! 😀

    Something like these:

Others types can be considered, but we are looking for something about life size.

Trekkin’ has one, but wanted to know if he needs to get it there by a certain time. He wants to grab some other caches we haven’t done in the area before coming to the picnic. However…..for some folks, our house might be almost on the way. We live in West Salem almost literally right off the interstate. Half mile from the exit, hardly have to come into town. If someone wanted to make a quite side trip, we could have it here for you to grab, and he’ll be sure to rescue his bird at the end of the event.

We would need to have the turkey decoy early, definitely before registration opens at 9am (8:30 am would be best).

Sounds like what you have will work fine, now we just have to find someone to get it to the park early enough so we can use it…

(Is this a collapsible decoy that would perhaps fit in a motorcycle saddlebag? Because I would need very little incentive to visit West Salem for a chance to make a couple runs through the Mindoro Cut on Hwy 108…)

Yes, the ones I saw are life-size. They look like those, only flat. They look more realistic than the ones Energysaver suggested.

    Bump.

Has anyone made arrangements with Trekkin’ and Birdin’ to pick up the turkey decoy that they have available and bring it to the picnic?

The5Xplorers, if you buy your $5 flat bird, will you be able to bring it to the picnic by 9am on Saturday morning?

Boy, who would have thought that finding a turkey would be this tough… always seems easy to find them around Thanksgiving time. 😀

I will be getting to the picnic early so I will send them a PM and try to arrange a pick up date/place.
